This breed of cats is considered the rarest and most expensive in the world.

History of origin

Breed karaket is a hybrid, it was obtained by crossing a domestic cat and a wild African Caracal, that is, a steppe lynx. The first crossing was carried out in Russia in 1998 randomly. After the passage of 9 years in America, scientists conducted a planned mating of a steppe lynx with an Abyssinian cat breed in order to bring out an exotic creature. The experience ended with the birth of one kitten, however, the offspring was not characterized by health and resistance, so the experiments were discontinued.

In 2014, Irina Nazarova began to work, she crossed the caracal and domestic lynx. Selection of the Russian felinologist ended in success and getting healthy kittens. Nowadays, generated species of several species are known.

  • F1 - characterized by a genotype, in which 50% falls on admixture of lynx. This offspring is the result of crossing a domestic cat with a caracal.
  • F2 - has a 25% impurity African wild cat. This litter was the result of crossing F1 and ordinary cats. The price of such pets is lower than the previous version, due to which it has less exotic features.
  • F3 - the result of mating females F2 and domestic cat. In such an animal there is only 16% of the wild representative.
  • F4 - considered the lowest regeneration, it was obtained by crossing F3 and a male of a different breed. From the wild breed, this kitten has only 6% of the genotype.

It is known that today in the territory of the Russian Federation there are 70 individuals of karakets with F1 generation and 15 representatives of F2 generation.

Description

Caraket is a breed that includes characteristics of caracal and domesticated cat. This hybrid has in its genotype the best characteristics of both parents, namely: the exotic nature of a wild creature and the appeasibility of a pet.

The appearance of the cat of this breed is bright and catchy, much is taken from her trotFor example, the presence of black tassels on the ears.

The size of a karaket is much smaller than that of a steppe caracal, but if the animal is provided with proper care and nutrition, then its mass can reach 15 kg. If you compare with other domestic cats, the caraket is much larger than them in size. The length of an adult representative reaches 0.9 meters, height of withers - 0.45 meters. The body of an exotic pet is characterized by muscularity and high elegant limbs. On the cat's belly there is a fat fold, the main purpose of which is to protect the internal organs during battles.

The head of the animal is small in size when compared with the body. It has an elongated wedge shape. The eyes of a karaket are almond-shaped, they are characterized by a clever look and expressiveness. The iris is colored yellow-green. Due to the dark edging visual organs seem to be even larger. This breed inherited fur color from the steppe lynx. The shade of wool can be either light sandy or dark brown. The bottom of the body, namely: the belly - has a lighter color.

Sometimes there are dark stripes with contrasting color on the limbs and face.Cubs often have bright spots, which disappear with age. Kittens from the first generation are strong and tall representatives of the animal world, they can not make any sounds except hissing and rumbling.

New derived generations acquire a more homely look and character, while maintaining the fur color in its original form and the presence of brushes on the ears.

Kittens karaketov born with a weight of 115 grams. They have no eyesight, and ears are arranged horizontally. On the 25th day of life, the young stand on legs and begin to walk on their own. By the month their ears grow almost twice and have half-centimeter brushes. Kitten's almond-shaped eyes are usually colored honey or blue-green.

The maturing karaket changes in color, the specks on the body become lighter, and the fur coat becomes more uniform.

Character traits

Toddlers can actively “talk” and squeak if they feel comfortable and also hiss in case of danger. Kittens may be frightened by a new toy, the presence of a stranger or a pet. The period of adaptation to something new is happening quickly. Animals have excellent hearing, so they are able to determine even a slight noise in the far distance.

Anti-scratch consists of a material and medical glue, with the help of which it is placed on a claw. This accessory is safe for the cat, but it can create some discomfort because the animal will not be able to climb any height.

And it is also worth wiping the eyelids of an exotic cat with a cotton pad that is dipped in tea brewing or chamomile broth. To wipe the eye stands in the direction from the outer corner to the inner, while the eye must be closed. Purulent discharge from the optic organ of a karaket is the reason for visiting the doctor. Since karaket is considered a rare breed, breeding them remains a problem. On the territory of the Russian Federation one cattery breeds this breed, which has several subsidiary branches. Each mating can be called genetic experience, which can not give an excellent result. In order for caracal to fertilize a small animal, scientists create special conditions of housing and nutrition.

Feeding

The basis of the normal growth and development of a pet is considered proper nutrition. Especially pay close attention to the kittens in this matter. At the time of intensive growth, they need a lot of vitamins, nutritional components and vital elements. According to experts, quail and chicken head are those products that are best suited for small kittens.

From one month of age, the young should be given mince, after which - meat with a bone. By 6 months of age, 3 quails per day will be the norm for an animal. After six months of age, the growth rate decreases, by which time beef, fish and chicken should be present in the diet.

Feeding is carried out with raw meat products, not giving in to heat treatment. If the meat is frozen, it should be slightly heated.

Karaket food should be exclusively natural, such products should also be present in the diet:

  • rabbit meat;
  • lean fish;

Due to the strength of immunity, an exotic cat rarely suffers from common cat diseases. However, the owner should not forget about regular vaccination against viral infections and rabies. This is especially important if your pet regularly walks outside. There is no exact information on the duration of karaket health, however, it is known that such a pet lives several years less than an ordinary domestic cat.

If the owner does not plan to get offspring from a karaket, then it is worthwhile to castrate or sterilize the pet. Otherwise, the animal will be nervous, intensively mark the territory, and may subsequently become ill. Such operations are going well, after 7 days the cat no longer remembers what happened. The optimal age for castration is 8-11 months. A month before the procedure, it is worthwhile to inculcate a Karaket, and for 14 days - to treat for fleas.

For half a day before the surgery, it is worthwhile to provide the cat with a hungry diet and plenty of drink. After castration, the animal needs rest and regular treatment of the wound with Chlorhexidine. In the first days after the procedure, feed the pet is minced.

As a rule, if the kitten is bought in the nursery, then it is already neutered.
