Cashmere products are in high demand and popularity due to the special properties of this material. The cashmere coat looks elegant, beautiful and stylish, and also perfectly warms. Like any other natural material, cashmere is demanding care and cleaning. Knowing a few rules of care and features of this fabric, you can safely wash a cashmere product at home, without fear of spoiling its appearance.

Material specifics

Cashmere (the second name for pashmina) is a fabric made from the wool of high-mountain goats. It received its name from the name of the Kashmir region in India. This is an area, most of which is covered by high mountains. The goats that live in that area have a particularly warm and soft undercoat, from which the material is woven cashmere. Similar goat breeds are also successfully bred in China, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Iran. The collection of wool is done by hand, and the process of making fabric is laborious and requires special care.

Wool fibers are very thin, easily torn and damaged during processing, so products made of pure cashmere are quite expensive. But their cost is certainly justified by high quality and beautiful appearance of products.

For the production of clothing, in addition to pure pashmina, manufacturers also use blended fabrics. Other types of wool or synthetic material can be added to cashmere. Such products require less complex care and even tolerate machine washable.

Preparation for washing

Before you start washing a coat of cashmere at home, carefully read the label. It contains important product care information. Attention should be paid to the following points:

  • The composition of the product. The label must indicate whether it is 100% cashmere or there are impurities of other materials in the fabric. In case you see the “WS 100%” badge, washing in a typewriter machine is contraindicated. This badge says that the coat is made only from natural wool, in this case of cashmere.
  • On the label can be a schematic icon depicting a crossed basin of water. This is the "do not erase" icon. In this case, the manufacturer informs us about the special delicacy of the fabric. To clean this product, you must contact a professional dry cleaner.
  • If the coat label has data on materials other than cashmere, pay attention to what specific materials it is. A blend of cashmere with synthetic fibers is less delicate and will easily withstand washing in a washing machine. If pashmina is mixed with natural wool, it is still necessary to wash the product only by hand.

Immediately before washing, prepare your coat:

  • Empty the pockets, unfasten the decorative brooches and overlays.
  • Detach the hood, if you have one.
  • Zip all buttons, buttons and buttons, including pockets.
  • Turn the coat inside out, bottom lining out.

After preparing your cashmere coat, you can proceed to the appropriate washing option for your case.

Handwash

For hand washing of products from natural wool should not use ordinary laundry detergent. He eats too deep into the fibers of the fabric, and washing it out of natural wool material requires repeated rinsing, which may adversely affect the safety of the appearance of the product.Suitable agents are special powders or gels for wool and cashmere.

You can also use shampoo for hair. Shampoo well removes dirt from natural fabric fibers, while not spoiling and injuring the structure of the material.

You can also not be afraid of the fact that the color of the product will fade or change.

Properly wash the cashmere coat by hand at home as follows:

  1. Fill a large basin or bath with water. The water temperature for washing should be no higher than thirty degrees. Add a cashmere or shampoo detergent to the water, stir it thoroughly until a large amount of foam is formed. With a little pollution, you can also use colder water, but you can never raise the temperature of the water above the specified threshold.
  2. Soak your product in the prepared solution. Soaking time 15-20 minutes. If your coat has areas of severe contamination, such as stains or scuffs on the sleeves and cuffs, they should be carefully stuck before soaking. To do this, apply foam from a cleaning agent or shampoo to the place of contamination and gently rub it into the fabric with a dry sponge or soft brush, without strong pressure. After zastiryvaniya you can soak the whole product completely.
  3. After soaking the coat in no case should not squeeze and twist.

The process of properly drying natural pashmina products will be described below.

A more detailed process of hand washing a cashmere coat is described in the following video.

Machine washable

As already mentioned, machine wash can be safely used for products, which, in addition to cashmere, include synthetic materials. However, even in this case it is important to follow a few rules:

  1. Wash cashmere coat in a typewriter machine can only be in careful mode. Careful wash programs are usually named “Delicate”, “Wool”, “Gentle Mode”, “Hand Wash”, “Careful Wash”.
  2. The water temperature at the machine wash, as well as at the hand wash, should not exceed thirty degrees.
  3. The coat should be put in a laundry bag in a typewriter or a sheet or duvet can be used depending on the size of your product.
  4. You can not use the spin mode, even at minimum speed.
  5. The drying mode in a washing machine for a cashmere coat is also unacceptable.

Drying products

After washing, remove excess water from the product. This can be done in two ways. You can place the coat over the bathroom horizontally, spreading it on a wooden lattice and let it drain. If this is not possible, the coat is wrapped in a thick terry towel or cotton cloth.

After the towel absorbs some of the water, it should be replaced with a dry one and repeat the procedure.

When the product gets rid of excess fluid and becomes wet, it should be gently laid out on a dry cloth in a horizontal position. Make sure that you lay the product straight, with no folds or folds. You should not have a coat for drying in the sun or near heating devicesthat produce heat. The presence of drafts is also undesirable. As the fabric gets wet, it is replaced with a dry one.

The coat itself must be turned over periodically.

Do not hang the product vertically on a hanger or clothes pegs until it is completely dry. The vertical position of a wet or wet cashmere product can severely deform it. Also, for drying, you can not throw a coat over a clothesline, as it will leave a mark on the fabric.

After complete drying, the cashmere coat can be ironed. Set the iron’s minimum heating temperature or Silk mode. For additional protection of natural wool material, ironing can be made using an additional layer of thin fabric that spreads over the product.

As you can see, the care of a cashmere product, although laborious, is quite feasible at home. Knowing the specifics of this material and observing the described rules, you will be able to enjoy your favorite cashmere coat for a long time.
