After a successful acquisition of a new pair of shoes, you should think about how to properly lace it up.

Properly chosen way of lacing will not only create additional comfort for your feet, but also extend the service life of your shoes.

So, to understand this matter, we offer you some of the most interesting ways of lacing.

Types and fashionable ways

Classic lacing

In the world there are so many ways to lace up shoes. They number more than a billion, but among them only two are considered traditional.

  1. Method 1

In order to perform the lacing with this method, you will need ordinary laces that match the style of your shoes. We pull both parts of the lace through a pair of holes located below, and pull them out. We stretch the parts of the lace from the inside to the outside through the next two holes by crossing them. In this way we lace up to the end. The advantages of this method will be ease and convenience. It is also worth noting that the lacing of the shoe, and not the ankle joint, which creates additional comfort.

  2. Method 2

It differs from the previous method only in that the lace intersection occurs alternately over and below the holes. The cord is pulled from the top down through a pair of holes from the bottom, its parts intersect and stretch through the next two holes. After repeated crossing, the parts are passed through the following holes from the outside to the inside. We lace up the shoes completely. In addition to the speed and ease of this method, the advantage will be the decorative effect, as well as the fact that this lace-up technology reduces wear on the laces.

With an odd number of pairs of holes, start the lacing from the inside, so that the laces come out.

Straight lacing

For those who do not like the classic crossover ways of lacing, we offer the technology of direct lacing. These methods, both externally and technologically, differ from traditional ones, and they have their own advantages.

  1. Method 1

This method is considered traditional European. Pull the cord through the pair of bottom holes from the outside to the inside. Pull the left side of the lace through the hole diagonally from the inside to the outside, passing one at the same time. Pull the right side of the lace through the next hole diagonally from the inside to the outside. Pass the parts of the lace through the opposite holes from the outside to the inside. Perform lacing in turns with one and the other part of the lace to the top of the shoe.

This is one of the ways to quickly and neatly lace up shoes. A zigzag method will provide reliable and strong lacing

  2. Method 2

With this option you can hide the untidy back of the lacing and provides that the bow will not be visible.

Pull the string through the bottom holes from the outside to the inside. The right side of the lace will be drawn from the inside to the outside with a hole above the one into which you missed it. Thread this end of the strap through the opposite hole from the outside to the inside. Pull the left cord from the inside to the outside with a hole above, while passing the one into which the right end is passed. We skip the left side through the opposite hole from the outside to the inside, and we draw the right one to the hole higher than the left one. Thus, we lace up to the end of the shoe, tie the laces and remove the bow inside the shoe.

Such a lacing has a neater look than the previous one, but the lacing technology is a bit more complicated. Most of all, this technology is designed for shoes with an even number of pairs of holes. However, with an odd number of pairs, you can skip the lower or upper pair.

Lacing winter boots

For lacing winter shoes you need a simple, but interesting, fast and tidy way of lacing, which will secure your foot in the shoes and will not create discomfort.

Pull the left side through the hole from inside to outside, and the right - from outside to inside. Pull the left side through the hole above the right side from the outside to the inside, and the right part into the hole above the left side from the inside to the outside. Thus, through the holes on the right, the ends of the lace extend only from the outside to the inside, and into the holes on the left - only from the inside to the outside.

We advise you to lace up the shoes in a mirror image, it will look extraordinary and very interesting.

This method of lacing is also perfect for high-toed shoes. It will reduce friction, which will allow you to tighten and loosen lacing effortlessly.

Looped lacing

  1. Method 1

An interesting and unusual way of lacing, which, despite the ease of implementation, has some drawbacks. The laces do not intersect, but intertwine with each other in the middle, because of which they can move out from the middle, and also because of friction, the wear of the laces increases.

Try this method in two colors.

Pull the string into the bottom holes from the inside to the outside. Cross the right and left ends between themselves, stretch them into the holes above those from which they came out from the outside to the inside. Thus, you make from the ends of the lace two loops that interlock with each other in the middle.

  2. Method 2

This is a very beautiful method of lacing, which differs from the previous one in that the ends of the lace are twisted twice and not diagonally passed through the hole above.

Pull the string into the bottom holes from the inside to the outside. Cross the right and left ends twice together. Stretch the right end of the lace in the hole above the left, and the left end above the right, from the inside to the outside. Continue to the top of the shoe.

This is a very tight lacing that will be difficult to loosen. Also make sure that the center does not move.

Lace-up without a bow

Most of us do not like bows, which are formed after tying shoelaces. Therefore, we found several ways to lace up shoes without a bow. One of them was described in direct lacing by the second method.

  1. Method 1

For this method, you will need two pairs of laces of different colors. One lace you perform the second method of direct lacing, and the second lace through the resulting canvas. Since the straight lacing technique is described, consider how to work with the second cord. So, after you have finished a straight lacing, adjust it to your leg, tie up the laces and hide the bow. Take the second lace, tie one end on the bottom straight line of the previous lacing and hide the end. Then pull the remaining end through the "threads" alternately below and above them in a checkerboard pattern. This way you will be able to “weave” a web of laces. You can hide the second end of the lace in a way similar to the one we used to hide the first end.

We got a beautiful and free lacing, on which we spent time only once.

  2. Method 2

We begin to lace up the top. Tie a knot at one end of the lace. We deduce the second end of the lace from any top hole from inside to outside and stretch it in opposite in a straight line from outside to inside. We draw from the inside to the outside of the hole diagonally and stretch it in opposite in a straight line from the outside to the inside. We continue to lace up this way to the end. The rest of the lace can be pulled through the lacing up, or you can tie a knot and cut it.

Fast lacing

The classic, straight, lacing of winter shoes and lacing with loops, and some lace-free lacing technologies described above are some of the fastest ways to lace up shoes. But this fast-lacing methods do not end there. For example, we give one more.

Pass the string into the lower holes from the outside to the inside; pull the left end of the lace into the uppermost hole diagonally from the inside to the outside. The right end of the lace will be working. We derive it into the hole above the one into which the left has entered from the inside to the outside. Next, skip the right end to the opposite in a straight line hole from the outside to the inside. In this way we lace up to the top.

Inner hidden lacing

Not everyone likes lacing, in which the inside of the lacing is visible. For you, we picked up the method of inner hidden lacing.

Pass the string into the lower holes from the outside to the inside, the left end of the lace lead into the left upper hole from the inside to the outside. Since the left end of the lace is not used, it should be shorter than the right. Draw the right end of the lace with the hole above the one into which it entered, from the inside to the outside. Pass it through the opposite hole from the outside to the inside. In this way, lace up to the end.

The second method of direct lacing can also be attributed to the type of inner hidden lacing.

Original lacing options

Lacing for woodland or cycling

It looks unusual, but the location of the bow on the sides will ensure the safety of a bike ride or a walk in the woods.

Pass the string through the bottom holes from the inside to the outside. Pull out the right side of the lace and pull it into the hole above from the outside to the inside. Then take it out of the opposite hole from the inside to the outside. Pull the left side of the lace into the hole, letting through the part from which you just pulled the right side, from the outside to the inside. Pull the left side of the lace out of the hole directly opposite to the one into which you inserted it. In this way, continue to lace up to the end.

Lacing "World Wide Web"

Begin lacing with the second pair of holes at the bottom. To do this, we draw the cord from the inside to the outside and stretch the ends into the holes below the outside. We intersect both parts of the lace and bring them to the next upper holes from the inside to the outside. We return below and we hook the strip from the lace obtained before this. In this way, we repeat to the end, only the last time we don’t cheat, but simply withdraw and tie.

Double reverse lacing

We begin to lace up from the second pair of holes from the top to the outside from the outside. We cross parts of the lace and stretch them into the hole below, passing one from the outside to the inside. So we lace up to the lower holes, and then we stretch the ends of the lace into the holes above from the inside to the outside and lace up to the top.

Butterfly lacing

Pull the string into the lower holes from the outside to the inside, and out into the holes above from the inside to the outside. Cross and stretch into the holes. Repeat to the top. If the number of pairs of holes is even, then we replace the first action, instead of it, we pull the cord from the inside to the outside and immediately cross it.

Interesting examples

Two-color lacing

The only drawback of this method is the node that can disturb you. So, we connect two laces and draw the ends through different holes on one side. Lacing by the method of inner hidden lacing.

Double two-tone lacing

We lace with both laces using the first method of classic lacing, just skip the holes in order to lace with a different color.

This material presents only some of the methods and types of lacing of shoes. But they will help you look stylish and extraordinary.
