Initially, a wristwatch is a device for measuring time. Now it is not only a stylish accessory and a way to highlight your own individuality and social status, but also a multifunctional assistant in working with time.

A little bit about the clock

It would seem that with the advent of advanced phones and other electronic devices that have a time display on the display, there is no need for a wristwatch - but this is not so. Although now there are many companies that create inexpensive watches, a huge number of people prefer expensive ones, wanting to show others their social status.

Some accessories manufacturers call this device a commodity rather for pleasure, and not for observing time. Yes, and often he appears as an expensive gift. But still, we are witnessing more and more improvements, more and more trends, more and more technologies affecting the usefulness of the usual wristwatches we are used to. And the most popular and debatable watches are now equipped with a chronograph.

Features

In the modern sense, a chronograph (other Greek chronos “time” + grapho “write”) is a counter that allows you to accurately measure, record the length of time and save data. This intricate device appeared in the first half of the XIX century and was used mainly in horse racing. At the end of the second hand of the first device for recording the length of time, an inkwell was placed, which made a mark on the dial when the mechanism stopped.

The frequency of today's chronograph is measured in the unit vph (vibtarion per hour - the number of vibrations per hour), and today the most common frequency is 28.800 vph. Based on this, it becomes easy to know how many vibrations are obtained in seconds. If you divide 28,800 vph by the total number of seconds per hour, you get 8.

So the chronograph, the frequency of which is 28.800 vph, is able to measure the time interval with an accuracy of 1/8 second.

It is easy to use it - using the buttons built into the watch case. The number of buttons depends on the model - more modern ones (split-chronographs) have more of them. However, it is inconvenient to use the mechanism with one button, because both the start, and the stop, and the reset is performed by herself.

Models

Modern split-chronographs, having two arrows located one under the other, are capable of performing several tasks simultaneously. With a split-chronograph, it becomes easy to measure the duration of several events, which, for example, began at the same time, but ended at a different, or one after another.

There is another model, the feature of which is the function of instant restart, it is called fly-back and is used for measurements that do not have gaps between values.

The design of the chronographs can also be different. In the stores you will find models with a variety of scales (tachometric, capable of measuring the speed with which the object is moving, telemetric, measuring the distance from the sound, logarithmic scale, and others).

It is known that chronograph watches can be both mechanical and quartz. Quartz crystals can even emit a signal when time is running out, if, of course, there is a function in the chronometer to designate an interval.

There are also commercially available models that combine, for example, a conventional chronograph and a tachometer scale. Such a device is very convenient, because it allows you to both track the speed of an object, and track time.

There is no particular difference between men's and women's watches - men's watches can be larger and usually dark or gray, while women's watches can be lighter and can be decorated with precious stones. When choosing the color of the product, the preference of buyers often falls on neutral or delicate, dull colors, so that the device fits into any image and complements it.

In more detail about what a chronograph is and how to use it, the following video will tell:

Who is using?

Chronograph has wide application. It is necessary for those people who need time control. When buying a watch, many buyers do not even know what this device is for, but it is incredibly useful even in everyday life. Most often, they, as stopwatches, are used by sports fans, but unlike the stopwatch, the chronograph does not affect the operation of the main device, but is an addition.

They use it at business meetings, and waiting for a courier with a pizza, and preparing a complex dish, and riding a bicycle.

Often, while doing everyday tasks, we are faced with the need to measure time, but we don’t even think about how a chronograph designed specifically for counting seconds, minutes, hours would be useful at this moment. Excellent help this device in the work and the military, and the doctor and teacher.

Perhaps, a watch with a chronograph and you will be forced to treat this device somehow especially and you will include them in your daily life on a par with a drop of cologne. Of course, such a watch is a great helper in life and a universal gift.

When choosing a product, you must first make sure that you will use the mechanism that you have learned so much about now, because the dial, equipped with a chronograph, is slightly larger and heavier than normal.

It is important to note that the repair of such a complex and almost perpetual mechanism is very expensive.

So, we learned in general terms what the chronograph is, how it works and why it is needed in a wristwatch, and your task is to choose a suitable model for yourself and enjoy the acquisition! However, be prepared for the increased interest of others around you and do not get carried away with much research with a chronograph, because who knows, all of a sudden these light experiments will one day become a maniacal idea!
