The use of natural dyes for hair does not lose its relevance over the years. Henna is the most popular type of natural dye and makes hair vibrant and shiny. But despite the obvious advantages, the dye still has disadvantages, the main one is the difficulty of removing the product from the hair. However, with the right approach and the observance of certain rules, it is quite possible to wash off the henna, you just need to be patient and follow the recommendations clearly.

Dye Features

Henna is a marsh shade powder, for the manufacture of which leaves of lausonia are used - a plant growing on the territory of the Middle East and North Africa. The composition of vegetable raw materials is the presence of essential oils, organic acids, vitamins C and K and resinous components. Due to the presence of natural pigments, henna can dye hair in bright orange, red and red-brown colors. An important feature of henna is its sparing effect on the hair structure: during dyeing, it does not destroy the native pigment, but only envelops it, forming a surface film. This leads to compaction of the hair structure and an increase in their volume.

However, this effect has its reverse side. As a result of the enveloping action of the plant pigment, other compounds cannot penetrate into the hair and change its color. Therefore, difficulties with washing off henna or repainting hair into another color are often the reason for refusing to use it in favor of other, less healthy products.

In addition, despite the positive effect of henna on the structure of the curls, it should not be too carried away. This is due to the fact that the constant exposure of organic acids over time leads to excessive brittleness of the hair and significantly complicates the task of washing off the coloring pigment.

Causes of elimination

Despite the powerful healing effect of the natural dye, situations often arise when it is urgently necessary to wash it off. This happens when you get excessively red, and sometimes a rich orange hair color, the brightness of which was not included in the plans. This reason is the most popular, as often staining with henna gives a rather unexpected color effect. The second reason is the desire to repaint in a different color, and in the presence of henna on the hair, this is quite problematic.

In this case, washing off the natural pigment is a mandatory procedure, since the new composition will not be able to break through to the internal structure of the hair due to the surface film. Moreover, if the henna is not completely washed away and remains on the hair even in small quantities, then staining with another composition can lead to the appearance of the most unexpected shades - from crimson to green. For the same reasons, henna is washed off before performing a perm, as otherwise there will be no spectacular curls, and the hair structure will suffer greatly.

How long does henna last?

The henna contains a large amount of tannin, which penetrates deep into the hair structure and reacts with keratin contained in them. As a result of such a compound, tannin acquires the ability to linger inside the hair for a very long time.On average, henna can stay on the hair for about 6 months, which is quite a long period and distinguishes the natural pigment from synthetic dyes and tonics. However, the color fastness is not the same for all hair types and depends on their structure, native color, intensity of coloring and frequency of washing the head. So, the natural pigment is best washed off in the first couple of weeks after dyeing, after which it will be rather difficult to remove it from the curls.

You should also immediately understand that the matter will not be limited to one or two rounds. To completely wash away the pigment, you will need daily washing of the head with the use of various means for several days.

How to wash off?

If hair dyeing did not lead to the desired result and it was decided to wash off henna, then the greatest effect can be given four times shampooing with any shampoo immediately after dyeing. Such an emergency procedure will help to partially remove the red hair and give the hair a more natural shade. However, you should not flatter yourself about this, as it is most likely that you will not be able to completely get rid of the natural pigment and wash your hair to its color. This will require a whole range of procedures involving the use of both professional preparations and home remedies.

With the help of professional tools

Professional preparations for henna removal are acidic and blond. The former remove the dye more gently and do not adversely affect the hair structure, while the latter include bleaching powder, shampoo, water, an oxidizer, and not only wash off henna, but also visibly lighten the natural color. Below are the most popular professional tools that can be used not only in the cabin, but also independently at home.

  • Backtrack decamping shampoo from the collection of cosmetics Paul Mitchell is able to wash off the natural pigment at a time. The high efficacy of the drug is due to the combined effect of the remuver, neutralizer and protecting base that make up the kit. Before using the first two components are mixed in equal parts, then applied to the hair and leave for 20 minutes. Then put a protective agent, wait another minute, and then washed the hair under running water. This tool is one of the strongest of all the samples on the market and allows you to quickly get rid of redhead without damaging the hair structure. The only disadvantage of Backtrack shampoo is its considerable price.
  • Emulsion Nexxt Color System Remover It has a very gentle effect on the hair and acts as an excellent alternative to blonds. However, unlike the previous drug, you should not expect a quick effect from it. The emulsion involves repeated use, with gradual color correction.
  • Kapous Decoxon emulsion specializes in washing natural and synthetic paints and is able to remove redhead at a time. Further adjustment of the shade will require several more applications, however, the bright orange color will disappear after the first application. The set consists of two bottles.
  • Color Back Remover from the Italian company Nouvelle also consists of two bottles and is capable of performing a full or partial wash of the pigment. And although for the complete removal of henna will require repeated use, the impact on the structure and condition of the hair will be very soft and gentle.
  • Emulsion Color OFF from the Russian company Estelle includes 3 components: a reducing agent, a catalyst and a neutralizer. The composition effectively removes the red color without destroying the natural pigment and lightening the hair.

Folk methods

However, henna can be washed off not only with professional compositions, but also with home remedies. As a rule, most popular methods require more prolonged use, but the negative impact on the hair is minimal. More effective and popular tools to get rid of the red color at home are presented below.

Table vinegar is a fairly effective composition and helps not only remove redhead, but also makes the hair soft and silky. To prepare the solution in a bucket with 10 liters of warm water, pour 4 large spoons of vinegar and mix well. Then for a quarter of an hour keep the hair in this composition, then washed with shampoo and rinsed again with acetic solution. However, it is not recommended to use for rinsing an already used product in which the hair was wetted, it is necessary to prepare a new solution.

When using this method, be especially careful and do not allow the vinegar solution to get into the eyes. If it still happened, then you need to immediately wash the eye mucous with cool running water and continue to be more careful.

At the end of the procedure, a balm is applied to the hair, and then dried naturally without using a hair dryer.

Laundry soap is the most affordable and harmless way to get rid of redhead. The whitening effect of soap is due to its alkaline environment, due to which the hair flakes open, and the coloring pigment is gradually washed off. To remove henna, wet hair is abundantly soaped, left for 10 minutes, then rinsed under running water. Next, put a nourishing mask and dried in a natural way. The procedure is repeated every 3 days until the reddish tint finally disappears.

Sour cream not only effectively removes the red color, but also eliminates yellowness. To do this, take a warm soured sour cream of high fat content and apply it to the hair along the entire length. After 50 minutes, the curls are washed with oily hair shampoo and rinsed with warm water.

Kefir also has a whitening effect and is able to brighten the red color by several tones. For this, a glass of fat kefir is slightly warmed up, applied on hair, put on a polyethylene cap and wrapped with a towel. After an hour and a half later, the head is washed with shampoo for greasy hair, then rinsed and dried. To enhance the effect, the following mixture is prepared: 2 large spoons of soda and the same amount of vodka are added to 200 ml of kefir, then the resulting composition is applied to the hair, put on a hat or bag, warmed and left for an hour. Then the hair is washed, put a nourishing mask and dried without using a hair dryer.

Onions are also a fairly affordable way to remove henna, however, because of the peculiar smell, it is used less frequently. To lighten dark ryzhina, onions are cleaned and squeezed out of it juice or whipped with a blender to obtain a homogeneous slurry. Then the mixture is applied to the hair along the entire length and left for 5-10 minutes.

After the specified time, it is recommended to wash the head with fragrant shampoo, then apply a hair mask with honey or with yolk and yeast.

Alcohol also removes henna from the hair, revealing flakes and neutralizing the natural color pigment. The procedure is as follows: dry hair is abundantly moistened in 70% alcohol and kept for 5 minutes. Then, without washing off the alcohol, they apply castor or burdock oil to the curls, put on a plastic cap and warm them with a towel. After a couple of hours, the oil-alcohol mixture is washed off with shampoo for greasy hair, and then rinsed the head.

However, oils can also be used in pure form. To do this, the hair is smeared with a mixture of olive and burdock oils, mixed in equal parts, covered with cellophane and wrapped with a towel. Enhance the effect will help additional heating curls hairdryer.

After 2 hours, the mask is washed off with shampoo, and the hair is rinsed with diluted vinegar.

Ground coffee is also able to correct shade and remove excess redhead. Of course, he will not be able to neutralize henna, but he will certainly be able to paint a bright color effectively. In order to more effectively repaint the curls, instant coffee is mixed with black henna in a 2: 1 ratio, after which it is applied to the hair and left for 15-30 minutes. Dyeing time depends on the desired color and hair structure.

A yeast mask can not only remove henna from hair, but also provide them with powerful support. To properly prepare the composition, you need to mix a pack of raw yeast with a bottle of kefir, mix and leave to swell. In the absence of raw yeast, you can use dry, at the rate of 8 g per 200 ml of kefir. After the mixture swells as much as possible, it is applied to the curls and left for 2 hours.

You can do this procedure every day and continue until henna is completely washed off.

If the house did not have kefir, you can use another recipe. For its preparation, a teaspoon of sugar is mixed with the same amount of dry yeast and poured with a glass of warm water. After half an hour the mixture is applied to the curls, put on a plastic hat and wrap a towel. After 40 minutes, the mask is washed off with shampoo and rinsed hair. Judging by the reviews, it will take 2 weeks to get rid of redhead.

Red pepper is also able to neutralize ginger pigment. To do this, the pods insist on vodka or alcohol, then rub the resulting composition into the roots and distribute over the entire length of the hair. After 20 minutes, the head is washed with shampoo, then rinsed well and put balm.
