Hair coloring is a very popular procedure. Many women do it themselves. Often it seems that this is a very simple process: it is enough to apply paint, hold the set amount of time, wash off - and the new hairstyle is ready.

Of course, in itself staining is not particularly difficult, it requires only thoroughness, accuracy and care. Why, then, does the result not always meet expectations?

Consequences of a failed staining

The consequences that a wrong procedure can cause sometimes completely unexpected:

  • the color does not correspond to the expected and far from that presented on the package;
  • the shade was unpleasant;
  • color does not fit the owner;
  • strands became dull and naughty;
  • hair split, break, fall out.

And this is just a small list of possible problems. In many ways, they appear because, when they are going to dye their hair, very few people imagine what kind of a complex chemical reaction, the successful result of which depends on many factors.

The time during which the procedure is carried out (it is called an extract) is one of such factors.

All possible unpleasant consequences, except for an incorrectly chosen color, directly depend on the type and quality of paint, as well as on exposure.

Types of paint and duration of staining

Experts divide the dyes into four groups. They differ in their effects on the hair and, therefore, in the exposure time.

Natural Dyes

They do not harm hair, on the contrary, they bring tangible benefits: they strengthen the roots, improve the structure, and have a positive effect on the scalp. These are henna, basma, cinnamon, chamomile, lemon, strong tea and coffee.

When painting with them it is not necessary to observe a clear time frame.

  • On packages with basma, the manufacturer indicates the exposure time (it depends on the desired result, the country from which the product was brought).
  • On the basis of henna, cinnamon, chamomile, you can even make long nourishing hair masks (up to three hours). The duration of the procedure depends on the natural color, hair structure and the desired result. In order to get a beautiful shade, blondes need only 15 minutes, owners of light-colored strands will need about half an hour, brown-haired women and brunettes - from an hour. The longer the exposure time, the more saturated the color will be.
  • Lemon, tea, coffee are more often used for rinsing colors.

Toning agents

The purpose of their use is to give hair a certain shade or experimentation. They are completely washed off very quickly - just wash your hair 1-3 times.

Exposure during application is five minutes or more (indicated on the package), at this time it is useful to carry out a light massage of the scalp.

Semi-resistant ammonia-free paints

They do not penetrate into the hair, therefore, do not violate its structure. Coloring pigment is distributed over the surface of the hair, gluing scales. As a result, the strands are smooth, shiny and obedient, but the change of the natural color is possible only by two or three shades (blondes are a bit more); it will not be possible to completely change the color with their help.

It is necessary to tint hair once every two or three weeks, since these dyes are quickly washed away, it will not be possible to paint gray hair thoroughly and permanently with their help.But a significant advantage is that there is practically no harm from them. Of course, it is impossible to completely eliminate the harmful effects, but it is minimal.

The exact time of staining is indicated on the packaging and is rarely more than thirty minutes. Despite the absence of aggressive substances, it is not necessary to increase it arbitrarily, the chemistry is still present in them. Hair for this "thank you" will not say.

Permanent paints

And, finally, persistent permanent paint. They contain ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, and other chemicals. Allow you to drastically change the color, reliably paint over gray hair, long held on the hair. But at the same time they negative effect on the hair structure, since they destroy the natural pigment and allow the coloring matter to penetrate deeply inside, forever changing the original color.

The composition of modern professional cream paints include tools to make them safer. Nevertheless, the use of these dyes to violate the rules specified in the instructions is strictly prohibited.

The exposure time is not more than twenty-five, less than thirty, minutes. It is not necessary to hold the paint on the hair longer, the color will not become more intense from this, but it is quite possible to damage or dry the strands. Exposure too long can even lead to hair loss.

Natural blondes should slightly reduce the coloring time from the specified 3-5-10 minutes. Blonde hair is thinner, easier to pigmentation. The same applies to loose, brittle, dry, damaged hair. For them, it is necessary to carry out a restorative treatment within 2-3 weeks and cut off the split ends.

It is important to know that the dyeing time is calculated from the moment when the composition is fully applied to the desired length, so you need to act quickly enough.

A few minutes before the end of the procedure emulsification recommended - moisten the hair with water, beat the product on the hair and leave it for a while. This simple manipulation activates chemical processes and distributes the paint more evenly.

Root dyeing

It is no coincidence that manufacturers specify in the instructions the exact time and sequence of actions for two processes: when it is necessary to dye the entire mass of hair and when dyeing only the roots. The latter method is recommended to use if the roots have grown, and on the rest of the hair the color is dull and washed off.

In this case, the paint is applied only to the roots and aged for 15–20 minutes, then distributed over the entire length of the strands and left for another 10-15 minutes. This rule should not be neglected, since in order to refresh the color, this time is quite enough, and the additional chemical effect will not bring any benefit to the hair.

After dyeing, it is not recommended to wash the dyeing compositions with hot water. It will cause additional damage by enhancing the chemical reaction.

Rinsing with warm and then cool water will close the scales, the hair will become smoother and shiny.

Aftercare

As a rule, a color fixer is included with the cream paint. It contains caring oils and other substances useful to the hair. They definitely need to use. It should also be held on the hair for a sufficient time (about five minutes).

Further, care for dyed hair should be done with special shampoos and rinses for colored hair, as they contain substances that support pigmentation.

The use of tint means will increase the time between staining, help restore, maintain and deepen the color.

Hair health depends on the general state of health, and on the manipulations carried out with them. Frequent dyeing, perm, heat treatment often lead to consequences that can be difficult and sometimes impossible to eliminate. Therefore, the rules specified in the instructions are not a whim of the manufacturer, but a safety requirement.
