Parrots occupy one of the places of honor among birds that are able to live at home and interact with a person as a pet of all family members. Among the most sought-after breeds of this beautiful bird is the Czech parrot, which attracts attention with its beautiful variegated color and unpretentiousness to the conditions of detention.
Description
The history of this interesting breed dates back to England, where one of the breeders of small birds from a pair of ordinary green budgies appeared offspring with unusual external signs. Growing birds were distinguished by the non-standard for the breed structure of the skull, which was several times larger than that of the usual representatives of wavy parrots.
Further crossbreeding of birds allowed the owners to bring out a completely new species of birds, which today is very popular with parrot lovers, as well as with specialists actively engaged in breeding elite and exhibition specimens.
The size of an adult exhibition individual varies within 23–28 cm. Today, thanks to crossing and work on improvements in the species characteristics of birds, such pets are represented in a large variety of colors. The following color variations are most common: green, yellow, purple, blue, gray, and the combined color of plumage.
Brightness in the color of feathers is a sign of the breed, but there are other types of exhibition parrots. A bird is a bird that also has a large size, but does not stand out for its catchy color.
In the countries of the former USSR, parrots are called Czechs, since crested birds were first brought to us from Czechoslovakia. However, the breed also has a second name, which is most common in Europe: exhibition wavy parrots. Due to the unique external data the bird remains one of the most expensive. However, the sale of the Czechs is still not so common in comparison with other types of wavy parrots.
It is worth noting that numerous crossings extremely negatively affected the immunity of birds, in the light of which the exhibition individuals are less resistant to various infections than representatives of other breeds. As practice shows, it is possible to reduce the risk of the incidence of wavy parrots grown at home with the help of special cage care, additional processing of vegetables and fruits used for feeding. In addition, the Czechs have a rather poorly developed reproductive function. Very often the chicks appear with vices or later prove to be fruitless.
A pair produces from 1 to 4 chicks.. Crested parrots are monogamous, so losing a partner can be a serious stress for them. It is noted that the exhibition birds may lose their parental instincts after the birth of chicks, so the breeder should be prepared for the fact that he will have to engage in offspring on their own.
On average, Czechs live on the order of 10–15 years, however, some individuals can be distinguished by a long life cycle, maintaining their viability up to 20 years. Czechs can live at home alone, but the bird will be more comfortable with the company. In the absence of the interlocutor in the form of a tribesman, the owner of the Czech must ensure him regular communication. The nature of the birds is calm. In contrast to the excessive activity of smaller relatives, the Czechs tend to have smooth and even slightly awkward movements.
These birds are social, they show curiosity, they are good to contact with a person. Wavy show parrot is talking. The bird is quite smart, so it is easy to learn how to talk. A Cech can be taught to pronounce well both individual words and whole phrases. They fly infrequently, but love to play and communicate.
What is different from ordinary wavy parrots?
To notice the difference between an ordinary budgerigar and a Czech, one visual comparison is enough: a beautiful tuft of feathers will rise on the head of the exhibition breed. You can also distinguish a Czech by a beaded beard.
Due to these external features, the bird has a rather proud posture, and together with the bright color of the exhibition wavy parrot, it can be safely called an aristocratic feathered individual. As well as crested breed stands out for its size.
The specifics of folding the wings of the Czechs should also be added to the list of differences: they do not intersect with each other. And also the birds will have a different length of feathers. The characteristic features of exhibition copies should be attributed to their measured and more relaxed behavior in comparison with ordinary wavy parrots.
What should be the cell?
Since the bird stands out for its weak immunity, owners are thoroughly prepared to keep it at home. First of all it concerns the choice of house for the Czech. Suitable cage dimensions will be dimensions of at least 50x40x30 cm. The recommended raw material will be metal.
However, from the copper house should be abandoned. And also wood will be an unsuitable raw material for the cage.
As for the form, the Czechs will feel good in any houses. As a rule, cells are rectangular or dome-shaped. The diameter of the rods should not exceed 2 mm.
It is important to properly equip the dwelling for the bird. Mandatory things for parrots are various perches.
It is best that they are made of wood, since the plastic bird can get hurt. They can be from 1 to 3.

What to feed?
For a Czech, several feeders should be placed in a cage; their optimum number will be 2–3 pieces. Grain should be poured into one, the second will be used for mineral feed, and in the third, pieces of vegetables, fruits, and germinated cereals are usually put. Fruits can be hung with the help of holders that function as a clothespin. In addition to food, the parrot also needs water. The most suitable from the point of view of hygiene will be automatic accessories.
In addition, mineral components such as sepia or stone should be placed in the cage for the bird.
The rest of the diet of exhibition birds is similar to the feeding of ordinary wavy parrots. Most of the pet menu should be on the grain mixture in which the prevailing culture is millet. The remaining ingredients can be flax seeds, wheat, oats. Similar food can be purchased at every pet store.
Czechs can be given greens, cottage cheese, boiled eggs, cereals and mineral supplements. However, it is strictly forbidden to introduce sunflower seeds or fruits, nuts, as well as food from the common table into the parrot ration.
How to care?
At home, the bird will feel comfortable if the owner provides her with the proper conditions.
- Temperature. A suitable temperature in the room will be the range from +20 to + 25 ° С. A critical mark will be a drop below + 18 ° C, regardless of the season.The place chosen for placing the cage with a parrot should not be in a draft.
- Lighting. Duration of daylight hours for the crested will vary with the season. In the summer, the daylight hours for birds should be about 15 hours, in the winter months it can be reduced to 10 hours. With a lack of natural lighting near the cells organize artificial lighting with fluorescent lamps.
Caring for an exhibition wavy parrot includes the implementation of several mandatory activities.
- For bird health, it is important to clean the cage 2 times a day. As a rule, it is better to do this in the morning and evening.
- The Czech needs fresh water, so it is important to ensure that the liquid in the water tank does not stagnate.
- Do not leave feeders empty. If the parrot eats vegetables and fruits, then dried up pieces of food should be replaced with new delicacies.
- Bird for proper development will need daily physical exertion, so it must be regularly released from the cage.
- Water procedures are shown for the Czech no more than once every 7 days.
As well as the owner will need to organize poultry leisure. Since the birds grow and develop and without direct contact with the person, they need to find something for themselves. Therefore, the presence of various toys in the house is a prerequisite. You can install a small mirror in the cage for the bird.
The Czech master is recommended to spend some time on a daily basis. This applies not only to learning speech, but also games, for example, hide and seek. The wavy parrot is quite smart, so a one-year-old bird will be able to fold a pyramid, sort small items. The minimum time for training will be a quarter of an hour. In the process of growing up, joint leisure should last about 40 minutes a day.
