Today, in the fashion industry, there is a very clear tendency to imitate the well-forgotten old, modernizing the classics and styling to the national theme. One of the latest innovations was the revival and adaptation to the modern fashion of traditional footwear of northern peoples.

A bit of history

Folk winter shoes of the inhabitants of the Far North have several types and, accordingly, names. We analyze the most common:

  • KISS (emphasis on the last syllable) - shoes of reindeer herders and fishermen, made of deer (skins with deer leg). In some sources it is noted that these boots were used mainly in the cold spring and late autumn. Such fur footwear is characteristic for Nenets, hunt and mans.
  • TORBASA (Torbaza) is a predominantly Yakut type of shoe, sewn with fur to the outside. Boots are made of genuine leather and cloth with insulation - a lining of wool.
  • PYMA (the end of the word is also a shock) is another, the most common and popular type of winter footwear of northerners. Until now, the main territories in which both demand and supply of this type of fur shoes thrive are the Arkhangelsk Region, the Perm Territory and the Komi Republic.

What is it, these mysterious northern boots? They are made by hand from the skin of a deer taken from the bottom of its legs. They always sew pima with fur outside so that the nap is directed downwards. This feature allows you to protect your foot from getting wet. The height of the tops of such boots today starts from 40 centimeters and reaches 70-75 cm. Ingoda is the highest point in the groin area.

In the North, there are two most recognizable types of pim: Nenets and Izhma. Basically, they are similar to each other, but there are also minor differences.

Nenets Pima:

  • wide head;
  • men's shoes decorated with ornaments;
  • female pima are not differently shaped than male pima;
  • female models almost never have soles, and if they were made, then it will be made of deer brushes. Men's boots are always made with a sole, which is made from the skin of the deer's forehead;
  • Pima for women are transported on a separate sled.

Izhemsky fur pima:

  • narrow head, tight to the foot;
  • in jewelry of men's shoes - straight and zigzag lines;
  • identical cut for both male and female pims;
  • the sole of boots for the representatives of both sexes is made of the skin of reindeer foreheads;
  • Both models can be transported on the same sled.

There is another definition of pim - siberian, but they, rather, are the progenitors of the traditional Russian winter footwear - felt boots. Because they are made of felted wool. But, nevertheless, one should not confuse Siberian pima boots with Finno-Ugric fur boots.

Features

The main difference between pim and felt boots is that the boots from camus retain almost the original appearance of the source material and actively “use” its best qualities. In the process of felting, the sheep wool is somewhat modified. Still, Pima much easier boots.

Very often, Nenets boots are confused with boots — another well-known northern type of shoe. But they are very different from each other:

  • Pima can be made only from the skin of the feet of a deer, and high fur boots can be made from the fur of elk, roe deer, horse, and even seals.
  • Pima are always made with fur outside, high fur boots can be sewn inside with a fleecy part.

The main feature of the PIM is that they are very warm (they can withstand temperatures up to -50 degrees). Deer skin (camus) allows the legs to "breathe." In addition, it has the property of a thermos. The villi of deerskin have the appearance of porous tubes filled with air. Therefore, the heat generated by the feet of a person is not only preserved in the dogs, but also increased.

This northern footwear is very durable, wear-resistant and from this - durable. Quality natural pima can be worn for more than 10 seasons, if necessary, replacing only the sole.

In general, any shoes that come to the wardrobe of modern women of fashion from the Northern regions become a mainstay of quality, warmth and practicality. And, complemented by non-traditional decorations for it (ribbons, rhinestones, beads), it becomes an original and unique subject of hostess pride.

Models

The craftswomen of the Far North very cleverly and skillfully observe folk traditions when sewing different models of pim. Fur deer boots are divided into three types of models:

Men's The production of these letters is given maximum attention. On sewing men's boots consumes from 10 to 13 kamus. From the height of the tops will depend on their method of attachment. High pima are tied to the belt with special leather laces, and those that are lower are tied with woven woolen straps under the knee. The true masculine ornament used in decorating pim is modest, but eloquent, in the best traditions of northern peoples.

Women's fur boots mainly to the knee, so the number of skins for their manufacture is limited to 7-8 pieces. Women's pima are always tied to the belt. The pattern on them is much lower than men.

Children's pimy differ from adults only in size and patterns intended for children

Colors and decor

The most common color of pim is the natural color of the deer - brown (there are shades from light to dark) or black with “graying”. To date, the market offers a wide range of colors such boots, but here you need to be extremely careful and attentive. Poor color PIM can reduce the service life of shoes by almost two times.

White Pima look very elegant and elegant. At the same time, they can be decorated with nothing more, but cause delight and awe. Models of this color scale are very rarely on sale and have, accordingly, a higher price.

Traditional ornaments of this footwear are considered traditional ornaments of one or another people. At the same time, each model is characterized by its own decoration.

So, for example, female pims are decorated with patterns with unusual names: “little heads”, “calf horns”. A separate craft for giving uniqueness to female models was considered to be scraping, application and coloring. From a variety of fur stripes and cloth, a peculiar pattern on the side is made for beautiful ladies, who serve not only as a trivial decoration, but also as a set of rules and commandments: not to kill, not to steal, not to swear and not to offend the weak.

Men's boots are made using horizontal fur inserts in the front, between which fabric ribbons of blue, red and green colors fit very harmoniously. The name of the ornaments for men sound like “male head” and “bear ears”.

Manufacturers

Since Pima is a national product, they are mainly made by folk craftsmen. Hand-made fur deer boots are very much appreciated, as they are always different, despite the method and technology of their tailoring, verified by years and passed from generation to generation.

There are factories, workshops and workshops for the production of PIM. For example, the widely known, among the admirers of the northern paraphernalia, the trade and production company Dary of the North (R. Komi, Syktyvkar) produces a wide range of letters, which can be ordered without leaving home.On the official website of the company, you can easily get acquainted with information on how this can be done, and which models of shoes from kamus can be sewn.

LLC "Camus", located there, offers classic models with traditional fur patterns.

LLC “Olenevod service” - a workshop for sewing a wide variety of products from deer fur and leather. It is located in the village of Sizyabsk, Izhma region of the Komi Republic. Here, no more than a dozen people are engaged in making pims by hand.

A uhal factory of Aikhal kamus, located in another cold city of Russia, Irkutsk, offers original pima with folk motifs and patterns of the Far North.

There are also a number of industries operating far from frost conditions. All these craftsmen and masters - people from the most northern regions of Russia - with great pleasure share their works with the rest of the inhabitants of our immense homeland.

How much are?

The price tag for fur deer boots varies depending on their size, the height of the tops, as well as decorations. A way of transporting the goods to the customer also makes a significant contribution to pricing.

For example, low boots made of deer fur, ordered directly from the territories of the Far North, will cost the buyer 20-22 thousand rubles. Delivery from central Russia can reduce this figure by 3-4 thousand.

The price of women's and men's full-fledged pims fluctuates around twenty-thirty thousand per pair, also depending on the number of components and the method of delivery.

In the markets you can find shoes that will cost less than 10,000 rubles, but its quality will remain in question. After all, natural deerskin, original Nenets decorations and handicraft always have a high price and excellent quality.

How to choose?

Manufacturers of quality natural pims provide several basic criteria by which you can easily determine the "right" shoes:

  • Hold the hand "against the wool." This trick will allow you to see from how high-quality material pima are made. The pile at the same time should be elastic, not to be creased, not to break and it is easy to return to its original position.
  • Color You need to carefully look at the colors. Natural camus has smooth transitions of shades, there should be no “flashes” of color.
  • Squeeze bootleg hand. In the process of compression, you should not hear any crunch or crackling. Otherwise, camus dressing before sewing this shoe was made incorrectly. Pyma can simply burst in the process of socks.
  • Smell. Fur boots must be free from foreign smell. When preparing skins for pim, camus is very thoroughly cleaned of reindeer fat.
  • The quality of the welt is a border that connects the fur and the sole between them. It is made of a piece of hard leather no more than 2.5 mm wide. The threads that sew the welt should, as it were, be drowned in the hole. If on the sole you can see the threads, then soon you will have to change it.
  • The sole consists of several layers of felted wool, or of a combination of wool and rubber. The second, of course, will serve you much more than the first, but it is less frost-resistant.

Care Tips

Despite the fact that reindeer fur has excellent water, dirt and dust repellency properties, it must also be cleaned. In the care and cleaning of the PIM, the following simple rules should be followed:

  • - they can be dried by filling them with newspapers and turning them upside down with their soles away from heating devices;
  • - remove shoes only with your hands, in order to avoid erasing the fur;
  • - wear pima only in dry frosty weather;
  • - wipe them best with a soft dry cloth;
  • - if the fur is wet, in no case do not comb or iron it, otherwise it will crumble;
  • - store pima in a canvas, suede or natural textile bag, you can also soak them with a good moth remedy, push the paper inside and put the cardboard to keep the shape;
  • - deer boots are stored in a dark ventilated place at room temperature of not more than 23 degrees and a humidity of just over 65%.

What to wear?

In modern life it is very easy to combine any kind of shoes with clothes. However, if you have a question about what Pima is wearing, here are a few images for your imagination.

For such cute fur boots fit any tight pants tucked inside Pim: jeans, leggings and even leather pants.

White pima with lace inserts will be an excellent accessory for mini-skirts and even dresses.

It would seem that coarse brown boots can be well combined only with trousers, but the woolen gray mini-dress also blends in very harmoniously with the modern look, and the fur top coat will add grace to the girl.

Men's pimy-boots very conveniently and harmoniously fit into the casual image of the owner.

Narrow men's pants tucked into boots with “deer” apparel look very stylish, honest and practical.
