Companion decorative dogs have always been in demand among breeders around the world. Such demand has led to the emergence of new and fairly young breeds, which include the Russian saloon dog, which stands out for its exterior.

History of origin

This variety of decorative dogs was bred not so long ago, but in the light of its attractive exterior, the animals have already managed to get the second name - mermaids. This comparison of four-legged pets is due to the presence of a long and soft flowing hair resembling hair. Mermaids are perfect for breeders who need a non-aggressive and beautiful companion, allowing them to experiment with their appearance through various haircuts, hairstyles and hair styling.

The formation of the breed occurred at the beginning of the two thousandth in the capital of Russia. Breeder and judge of many exhibitions - Julia Lakatosh was engaged in bringing animals to the outside. At the beginning of the work, planned crossbreeding of dogs of various breeds took place with subsequent consolidation of the obtained characteristics of the new species. After that, the tasks of stabilizing the genome and increasing the number of Russian saloon dogs were solved. At the moment, the animal has passed the classification, so that in Russia they are recognized as a separate breed group. That is why they are not classified as designer breeds.

It is not known for certain exactly which breeds participated in the breeding of the Mermaids, however, judging by the exterior, York was present in the genus of animals.

Description

Decorative animals do not stand out for their large size, according to approved standards, the dog must grow in withers from 18 to 28 centimeters. In this case, the mass of the pet will vary in the range of 1.8-3.5 kilograms.

The constitution of the Moscow mermaid is a bit stretched, but at the same time dry and compact. Folded dog in proportion. The skull will have a round shape, with a low frontal part, the front part is not expressive, with a straight back of the nose. Snuffiness is not observed, for dogs some narrowing of the muzzle to the nose is typical, it will be painted black.

Eyes of the standard size, without convex pupils, their color is mostly dark. The ears will have a wedge shape with pointed ends.

The back of the Russian saloon dog without a bend with withers, the chest is properly developed, has an oval cross-section. In the back there is a slight slope. The tail is high on the trunk, crescent-shaped in structure. In the raised position it reaches the back, in the normal state it will be slightly tilted down. It can be mothballed, but not more than 1/3 of the total size.

The neck relative to the body is high, has average parameters of length and width, the paws are set parallel, ideally should be smooth, but not long, which makes the dog a bit squat when viewed. Fingers are collected in a tight lump of an oval form. Limbs can be painted dark, spots are allowed.

The hair is long, it can be straight or wavy, it is distributed evenly over the body, while at the same time a natural parting will be formed along the waist. To the touch it is very soft, the undercoat is mild. There is a natural volume, the structure is a bit like Pekingese or Shih Tzu.

As for the color, the dogs can be presented in different tones of red, red, cream or fawn. Saturated color is rare, there may be a dark mask on the face.

Character

The result of breeding a new dog was a dog that stands out not only for its visual appeal, but also for its mass of positive traits. Thus, the Russian dog saloon, when kept at home, manifests itself as a non-conflicting pet in relation to both humans and other pets, if any. The congenital cleanliness is inherent in an animal, and also the dog will be barking quite seldom.

The character is dominated by playful and friendly notes, the pet is very attached to the breeder and remains loyal to him. He likes outdoor games, willingly caresses himself. The mermaid is distinguished by a favorable attitude towards children, actively participating in their entertainment. With a dog, you can travel without problems and take with you on hikes, trips. Pets are not shy, I have a balanced psyche, trying to adjust to the mood of their breeder.

Representatives of the breed can get along on the same square not only with dogs, but also with cats and small rodents, birds. On walks behave idly, not aggressive.

The pet is loyal to strangers, without undue suspicion or aggressiveness, but does not demonstrate increased optimism and interest when meeting people. The intelligence of animals is characterized by average values, but the pet will be able to memorize from 5 to 10 simple commands, provided early and competent training.

Dogs do not like hustle and bustle, and the pet also reacts negatively to violence or punishment by the breeder. Animals are very sensitive to the intonation of the voice of their owner, so they can recognize the mood of a person instantly.

It is extremely difficult for dogs to tolerate loneliness, they may be bored and depressed, so the owner will need to regularly contact with the pet, to devote time to it.

Lifespan

The breed is positioned as strong and resistant to many ailments. Animals stand out with good immunity, so they get sick very rarely. However, these characteristics of animals are directly dependent on the diet of the dog, as well as on timely vaccination. Since the breed is still quite young and poorly studied, there is still no information about congenital diseases.

Dogs are not long-lived, on average, their life expectancy is 12-15 years.

How to choose a puppy?

Since the breed is still young, it has not received enough distribution around the world. Moscow mermaid puppies can be bought today only in specialized private nurseries. Breeders do not recommend buying dogs for questionable ads, especially via the Internet, in the light of the fact that under the guise of a purebred dog they can sell a common half-breed.

When choosing a pet, you should pay attention to the documentation about the dog, today all the litters of the Russian salon dog are subject to mandatory registration. You can make sure that the animal has pure blood when submitting a request for a check on the nursery website.

A dog without documents can not be bought - while animals are considered exclusive, they stand out for their high cost. The cheapness of a small dog should alert the potential buyer. Choosing a pet, it is recommended to pay attention to its exterior, check the characteristics according to the established standards for the breed.

It is also useful to assess the situation in the nursery, the general condition of the animal, which may indicate possible errors in the care or the presence of disease.

How to contain?

Despite the decorative nature of the breed, companion dogs are not whimsical in terms of care. Since the dog does not stand out for its large size, as well as its nature is neat, the breeders of Russian saloon dogs note the ease in keeping such pets.

Animal is considered contact and collectivetherefore, he tries to spend most of his time at home or on walks with the owner. Dogs are moderately active on the street, so they prefer a leisurely walk on a leash not far from home.

The main point regarding care is combing the coat of the animal. The owner must take care of the pet's hair on a daily basis, otherwise it will become confused, after which the appearance of tangles is inevitable, which will have to be trimmed. Since the dog is still acquired by a puppy, the breeder should know some of the features of the breed.

So, at the age of 9-12 months in dogs, there is a natural change of baby hair for an adult. This process will be associated with the active formation of lumps, which are the norm, which is temporary. With the advent of molting, the owner will need to pay maximum attention to the appearance of his dog.

After the change of wool, it will be much easier to keep a Russian salon dog. There is no specific amount of scratching per day for one animal. For some animals one procedure per week will be enough, and someone will need a brush every day.

If the mermaid's wool is clean, then it will be less confused, so the dog should be bathed at least once or twice a month. But before the pet water procedures need to comb, otherwise the state of the coat will deteriorate.

In addition to bathing and combing, the pet will need to be cut regularly. Today for this breed there are several varieties of this procedure:

  • grooming while preserving the dog's natural exterior;
  • sports haircut;
  • "Square".

On the evaluation of exhibitions options for haircuts are not affected.

In the process of keeping dogs will also need to pay attention to the face. It should be washed after each meal. Every day, you need to wipe your pet's eyes so that no mucus accumulates in the corners, and there were no more serious consequences regarding the inflammatory processes of the organs of vision. Ears should be cleaned weekly. If too much sulfur accumulates inside, cleaning is allowed twice a week.

To care for the eyes and auricles, you should use cotton pads dipped in water or a decoction of chamomile flowers. In ears also it is necessary to cut out the growing wool.

For the prevention of gum disease and tooth decay in animals need to clean the mouth regularly. It will require special attention during the period of changing milk teeth to the primary ones. As a rule, this process occurs in 4-8 months. If there is a delay in the shift, you may need the help of a veterinarian.

Since the dog will spend most of his time in the dwelling, he will need to shear his claws. In this procedure, special care should be taken not to damage the blood vessels in the plate. Pillows after walking will need a daily inspection. In winter, they are recommended to be additionally lubricated with baby cream or specialized cracking compounds, which can be purchased at a vet pharmacy. During the cold season, dogs of this breed usually walk in special clothes.

Care from the breeder will require a genital area in the light of the long hair of the dog. It will need to be washed after feces. Once every 3 months the animal will need to carry out prophylactic deworming. Vaccination is carried out according to the schedule. In the summer, additional treatment from ticks and other blood-sucking parasites will be required.

To defend this breed can on the street or at home in a special tray or diaper.

The animal will need to equip its own space in an apartment or house with a stove bench. It should be a calm place without drafts. Also, the pet will need to buy a few toys.

A balanced diet will be the key to strong immunity of the dog. To draw up a menu, it is recommended to keep a balance in the consumption of pet fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Russian salon dog can be fed with natural food or dry food of industrial production. In the first case, the additional introduction of vitamins in the diet is mandatory. Dry feed should not be below the premium class.

The frequency of meals will vary depending on the age of the animal. Puppies can be fed more than 3-4 times a day. An adult dog will be sufficient two meals a day - in the morning and in the evening.
