Bright, athletic, incendiary eighties of the twentieth century gave rise to a new lifestyle and style of dress called Disco. Its name already speaks for itself that it was born on dance floors and in nightclubs.

Story

Disco really colorful, colorful and active style. It was formed as a result of imitation of stage idols - cult singers and musical groups, such as Diana Ross, ABBA, Boney M, Bee Gees and others.

And a kind of cherry on the cake, or rather, the impetus for the development of the popularity of the disco style was the film "Saturday Night Fever", released on screens in 1977. Young John Travolta played a major role in it - the seller in a small shop, Tony Manero, who during the day was inconspicuous and inconspicuous, and at night transformed into a real dance floor star at the Odyssey club.

Probably, the audience fell in love with this film because it gave them what they were so lacking - the belief that no matter how routine life may seem during the daytime, at night it can be made completely different. To some extent, this discovery was revolutionary for the youth of the eighties, boys and girls began to actively implement this idea.

In addition, in the eighties of the twentieth century, more and more nightclubs began to appear, sporty fit bodies and fitness became fashionable. New time required other clothes: tight-fitting - to emphasize a slim figure and body flexibility, bright-to draw attention to themselves at a party, not holding down the movement-for making intricate pas at a disco and playing sports.

However, it is not surprising that many elements and features of sports style are inherent in the disco style.

At the same time, their ideals of male and female beauty, characteristic of the disco period, took shape. The standard male appearance was a high pumped-up good boyfriend, but with a thin physique. Women sought to get closer to the appearance of long-legged slim blonde.

Disco style clothing

It is not surprising that it was the fashionable image of Travolta that became one of the main role models. The most classic disco style for a man is a white suit with flared knee-length trousers, a dark shirt, and high-heeled shoes. Just like Travolta and his hero. Often the shirt was replaced with various color-fitting turtleneck from thin knitwear.

Such a fashionable bow was so much loved that they began to use it in films that have absolutely nothing to do with the disco style. Let us recall the Troubadour from the “Bremen Town Musicians”, which in one of the episodes appears in a white suit with a slight flare on the pants. Or the hero of Alexander Abdullov - Ivan Pukhov - from the movie "The Magicians", which appeared at the ball in the same way in a white suit and black shirt. And you can not say that this image did not go. However, such a classic was diluted very actively and shamelessly with paints and bright accessories.

In general, the disco style is very influenced by the further development of men's fashion. Thanks to him, it became clear that a man may well behave freely and relatively relaxed, even in a seemingly strict suit. Changes have also occurred in the silhouettes themselves - smooth lines have become fashionable, looser cut of clothes, visual creation of wide shoulders.

With a light hand of designer and fashion designer Giorgio Armani, the world saw a line of silver-gray suits, silk shirts and loose ties, which ensured him a huge and dizzying Hollywood success. The clothes did not strive for restraint at all: wide flared jeans, leggings, shorts, colored panty hoses, and all this was decorated with sequins, lurex, and often it was sewn of bright or shiny fabric.

For tailoring, materials of artificial origin were predominantly used - viscose, polyester, spandex.

In the wardrobe of every fashionist and every woman of fashion there were necessarily jeans, mostly flared, whose waist was understated. They were worn by men and women. Jeans decorated, often with their own hands, printed patterns, embroidery with the same sequins, beads. The so-called banana pants were fashionable. Of course, the name of so many interesting details of the wardrobe gave the appearance of a banana.

More options for a fashionable image for a woman - a combination of short shorts and bright tights or leggings, T-shirts and pants in bright colors, denim sundresses.

In addition, we should not forget that dancing, which at that time was an incredibly popular way of spending time and leisure activities, is still one of the sports, because, as has already been said, there are a lot of borrowings from the sports style in the disco style. For example, leggings, short shorts, wide T-shirts, sports shoes were frequent attributes of girls not only in dance or fitness classes, but also just on the streets of the city.

Colors

Disco style is characterized by acidic, and even bright colors in almost everything - in clothes, and make-up, and even in hairstyles. On the crest of a fashionable wave were lime, yellow, pink, orange, silver, metallic colors. Sprays for hair with a short-term effect of dyeing, artificial multi-colored hair strands, hairpins and elastic bands became fashionable - and all this was full of all shades of the rainbow spectrum.

The girls' hairstyles did high and lush, but at the same time as strong as possible so that during the next dance the hair would not be disheveled.

Purple, blue, blue eyeshadow combined with fuchsia lipstick, scarlet blush was a classic make-up for women of that time. Plus, the girl's nails were painted in rich colors to match her make-up, accessories and clothes.

Everything played on contrasts, especially in female images. Mixed different colors in clothing, accessories. For example, the girls wore several hair ties in different colors at once on their horse tail, combined bright red leggings, a green tunic and an orange bolero, accessories were not necessarily matched to the color of any item of clothing.

Accessories

For this style is used not only clothing that attracts attention, but also accessories with the same task. Mostly accessories were, of course, girls and girls. Mostly wore a large number of bracelets and all at once, a lot of chains, large earrings, either colored or imitating gold, glasses of irregular shape and colored glasses.

Shoes are also full of colors. Women preferred sandals, shoes and sandals, which were distinguished by a high heel, stiletto or platform. Men also often wore shoes on the platform.

How to dress up for a party?

Despite the fact that the time of disco style is already in the past, many of its elements still remain and are being introduced into modern fashion, and even many modern designers leave hints at it in their new collections of clothes and accessories. Moreover, creative or nostalgic companies organize theme parties and events, including those in the eighties.

Of course, in the 21st century it is difficult to repeat the disco style as it was then. It is important that such colorful clothes correspond to the place and time, therefore if we are talking about a theme party - there are no taboos or restrictions for you.

If you intend to attend a different event, it’s important not to overdo it with a riot of colors and a nostalgic disco dive.

The modern attitude to the disco style in women's images allows for the presence of tight jeans paired with loose jackets, sweaters and tunics. They are complemented by platform sandals, plastic jewelry, bright clutches, competently placing accents.

As in the last century, sparkling silvery and golden colors, Lurex and sequins are welcome. Now materials for decorative and applied arts are full of diversity, so if you wish, you can decorate your clothes for a suitable image by yourself.

To the modern style of disco can be attributed to the pleated skirt of a trapezoidal shape, which successfully hide the flaws in the hips. Another great option to attract attention is the jumpsuit, which can serve as a kind of transformer. Happy at the workplace to be strict and restrained, and in the evening, supplemented with accessories, already shine with new colors.

Men are much easier. They can complement their classic costume with a bright shirt or a colored turtleneck and shine in a disco style. The iconic white suit and black shirt is a classic disco style.
