Most of us, when he hears about Scandinavia, immediately recall the harsh climate, strong people and the modest style of the interior. This region is very different from the rest of Europe and its features could not affect the habits of local residents and their traditions. For these reasons, the Scandinavian style of dress is unlike other European ethnic styles.

A bit of history

The considered style originated somewhere in the XVIII century. According to historians, King Gustav III laid his foundations when he designed his home. The monarch decided to make it as modest and simple as possible, which was unusual for monarchs.

This principle was transferred to clothing that had been made in this style long before that. For example, by the 16th century, the clothing of the representative of Scandinavia and any other part of Europe was significantly different. But the modern style of clothing finally took shape somewhere in the 30s. By the way, there has recently been a peak of interest in him.

Features

If we talk about the main features of this style, then they can be characterized by four principles:

  • simplicity;
  • conciseness;
  • comfort;
  • use of natural materials.

The latter is not surprising, since it was natural materials that were chosen as the basis for the clothing of northern peoples. They had to live in a difficult climate and needed to maintain mobility in order to work in such weather. All this led to the emergence of other principles described above.

A distinctive feature of clothing in the Scandinavian style is the presence of ethnic pattern. Of course, not every thing has it, but you can still often meet on the clothes of deer or Christmas trees. Most often they are placed on golf jackets, hats, mittens, sweaters, and so on. And the most important thing is that they are relevant both for children and women, and for men.

Another important feature of clothing in this style is layering. This is due to climatic features.

Another one that smoothly follows from the previous one is simplicity of cut. The more clothes there are on a person, the less sense will be in creating any ryushek and hooks, because it will be harder to dress.

And as already mentioned, the important point is the use of natural fabrics. The most popular material for making clothes is wool. Even when creating knitwear, wool with elastane is also used. But in the summer cotton and linen are also in demand.

Color solutions

If we talk about the most popular colors, then it should be said that most often in this style are used cold natural shades (shades of white, blue, black, brown, gray, beige and red).

An important feature is that all the gamma mentioned should be matte. The use of gloss and gloss is simply unacceptable. All this speaks of a rather limited color palette. But still it allows designers to do comfortable things for both women and men. And we add that the inhabitants of Scandinavia love clothes of light color, on which there is a dark pattern.

What and what to wear?

If we talk about women's clothing in this style, then it is easy to recognize, since it will be decorated with ornaments and patterns. They can be found on any part of the clothing - mittens, jumpers, mittens, golf, skirts and so on. Also, clothes that use leather and fur will be very popular.. For example, leather buckles and fur rims.

Very often, girls wear cozy sweaters that have high collars and patterns.They are surprisingly combined with denim clothing.

High knit stockings and knitted cardigans are extremely popular.. They will look spectacular with long knitted skirts with an ornament. This image is very suitable for Scandinavian weather. The dress of a direct cut with a striped cardigan will perfectly look.

Also, volume scarves and tanned or fur vests and short fur coats are popular with Scandinavian girls. Vests look great with cotton or linen dresses. Often you can meet in the wardrobe of girls monochrome dresses.

It is important that the girls have in their wardrobe a lot of seemingly masculine things: hoodies, shirts, shirts and pants.

Hats in this style are presented with hats with ears, which are perfectly complemented by gloves with an ornament or mitts, as well as large scarves knitted with large scarves.

If we talk about shoes, the most common type - boots. They are distinguished by their insulating characteristics and convenience, because they are made of fur. Moreover, if previously they used exclusively the fur of a deer, today other types of it are used.

Another type of shoe that is used, but not so often - are uggs.

They are in perfect harmony with the Scandinavian style, but untam significantly inferior in popularity.

In addition, residents of Scandinavia are actively wearing boots with thick soles with lacing and boots with a knitted type tops. For the weather warm boots are used from soft leather with a flat sole. Usually they are made in brown or beige color.

Knitted boots with an ornament of deer or snowflakes are also used.

And instead of the tops of the girls can wear knitted leggings. Occasionally, heeled shoes can also be used, as it goes well with traditional clothing. Heeled boots or the most ordinary shoes with a suitable color scheme will be a great addition to any image.

According to stylists, the use of modern models of boots will be an excellent solution.

About accessories

It is best to select jewelery from the so-called cold metals, in particular, from silver, for the clothes being described.

Simple wooden Scandinavian clothes will also be combined with wooden or leather products. For example, leather pendants in the form of a talisman with tassels or large wooden beads are a perfect solution for clothes with an ornament.

In general, it can be noted that the style does not require a large number of accessories, as bright ornaments, fur trimming and everything else look great and you just don’t need to draw attention to them.

Spectacular images

If we talk about spectacular looks, then a sweater with a traditional ornament, suede ankle boots, and a short sheepskin coat with a fur collar can become a beautiful combination. Leather gloves, a large fur hat and a bag with fur trim will complement the created bow.

Another interesting look is a long cotton or flax dress with a traditional ornament, which can be worn with open sandals.

With warm clothes, as already mentioned, jeans look great. You can take a sweater, suede jacket, and boots of the same material. A knitted scarf with an ornament and a bag will complement this look.

A combination of a long chiffon skirt and a voluminous sweater can be called quite bold, or a dress with suede boots or fur boots.

A more discreet image - a knitted monophonic dress, which will be perfectly combined with a cardigan, decorated with fur. Perfectly with this combination will look leather boots with heels and the same bag. From accessories to this image you can also add a leather necklace or a silver necklace.

Also, interesting ideas can be called:

  • a combination of knitted sweaters with thin chiffon skirts;
  • symbiosis of a straight coat and a volumetric type scarf;
  • suede or leather vests that are trimmed with fur and fur shoes.

As you can be sure, the considered style gathered not only the originality of the culture of this region, but also allowed to create an amazing combination of simple things that emphasized it. Here it is - the Scandinavian style of dress.
