The kitchen hood is a necessary technique that cleans the air from steam and odors that appear during cooking. Over time, grease and other contaminants that need to be washed are accumulated on the hood. It is important to know how to do it correctly, so that the equipment lasts as long as possible while performing its functions.

Preparatory work

When you began to notice that the hood in the kitchen began to work worse, and the grease trap began to become covered with yellow-brown sticky spots, then it was time to start cleaning. To do this, you will need to disassemble the structure to eliminate contamination from all parts: both outside and inside. Before disassembling the device, It is recommended to study the instructions. Thanks to her, it will be easier to deal with removable parts. Also in the instructions are often marked means that it is forbidden to use for this product, so as not to damage it.

Consider the main preparatory stages for cleaning the hood:

  • It is necessary to disconnect the device from the electrical network. This item is important to perform before the start of all work to protect themselves and keep the device intact;
  • remove grease traps. As a rule, they are fastened with clamps and they are simply snapped off, but there are models in which it is necessary to remove the bar;
  • inspect and, if necessary, change the internal filters;
  • in the case of the duct at the hood, you need to remember that there is also going to grease and dirt, so it is recommended to clean the pipe from contamination;
  • wash the casing and the available internal parts;
  • clean the mesh with one of the selected methods described below;
  • Leave the device to dry completely.

Facilities

Preparing the elements of the hood for washing, proceed to the selection of cleaning solutions and the process of cleaning the device from fat. Initially, you need to determine what material the filter is made of. If it is made of polycarbonate or plastic, the fat eats very tightly into the coating. These filters do not wash, but are replaced once a quarter.

If the grille is aluminum or consists of steel, then it can be cleaned of greasy dirt. This can be done by folk remedies, as well as special chemicals that are sold in the departments of household chemicals.

Which of the means will be more effective is directly related to the degree of contamination of the device.

The main means of dealing with fat are baking soda, lemon juice, lumpy soap, acetic acid, ammonia, fat-dissolving solution, powder.

How to clean the grate?

In order to clean the kitchen hood inside of the fat at home, there are many methods that do not involve the purchase of expensive chemicals. Sometimes the improvised substances that are in each house, better and safer wash off the traces of fat.

It is easy to wash the net in the kitchen, quickly and without worries with the help of the indicated tools:

  • acetic acid. It is applied to the grid with a napkin, carefully processing soiled areas. Leave for half an hour, then scour the dissolved traces with a hard sponge, and then rinse with clean water;
  • soda. For this you will need spacious dishes. A small amount of liquid is poured into it, put on the fire and brought to a boil. Baking soda is added to boiled water (about 250 g of soda to 10 liters of liquid). Then they put the grate and filter into the pan, make the fire slower and leave on the fire for another 30-40 minutes. Thus, the fat gradually dissolves.After a while, take out the grate with filter and wash it under water at room temperature. Remaining contamination in inaccessible places may be removed with a cotton swab.

Washing with soda is considered one of the most effective ways. Firstly, for this method a minimum of effort is applied, secondly, soda is an inexpensive product, and thirdly, during cleaning there are no harmful fumes that may be from chemical agents.

  • laundry soap. To remove grease stains, soap flakes are added to a saucepan with boiling water. Then, the parts of the device are immersed in the resulting solution and left for approximately 50-60 minutes. After that, they are pulled out of the water and with the help of a stiff brush they scrub the remaining dirt;
  • lemon. Lemon juice is squeezed onto a napkin and treated with areas covered with fat bloom. When the fat begins to dissolve, wipe the mesh and filter with a damp cloth, then rinse it under clean water. If the dirt is not washed off the first time, repeat the procedure;
  • ammonia. When grease filters are too covered with grease and none of the above solutions could cope with contamination, you can try to wash them using a mixture of ammonia. To do this, boil water in a large enamel pot. Ammonia is added to the boiling liquid at the rate of 20 ml per 1 liter of water.

Then the nets are lowered there and left to boil over low heat for at least an hour. If stains are old, the time spent by the grids in the solution is increased to two hours. When the filters are cleaned, they are washed with warm water. Then wipe dry with a towel.

The only drawback of using this method is the rather unpleasant specific smell of ammonia.

When the fat on the hood acquires a rich brown color, it means it is already very frozen. In this situation, another proven method can help - digestion. Carry out this as follows: in a large pot filled with running water, put contaminated parts of the hood. Water must completely cover the details. Then this container is put on the fire, half a bar of laundry soap is added (preferably with a fatty acid content of at least 72%) and a couple of tablespoons of soda. The resulting composition is brought to a boil and kept on fire for about 30-40 minutes. If the water begins to evaporate, then it must be refilled so that the exhaust parts do not appear above the surface.

If, after cleaning the grates and filters, they are left to dry on their own, then in the future stains will be removed more quickly.

Cleaners also help to clean the fat (for example, Domestos, Cilit Beng, Schumannite other). But the chemical method is not the best. After all, the aggressive components that make up the component do an excellent job with fatty contaminants, but they do not have the best effect on the human body. It is not recommended to use them without rubber gloves and a protective mask, and after washing the hood you will need to thoroughly air the room.

Any air purifier consists of a grease filter. It is needed to clean the air flow that flows through the device. If such a filter were not installed in the exhaust devices, then an oily stain instantly formed on the internal coating of the equipment, including the electric motor.

Filters are disposable and reusable. The second option is definitely more convenient in practice. Disposables are made from sintepon and are often mounted in more budget devices. They are thrown away after the appearance of contamination, as they are not washable.

Metal filter is able to work exactly the same time as your equipment will last. Such a filter is a quality, reliable and durable part. These reusable items are convenient and they do not require replacement, but only regular cleaning.

The filter of this type is made of aluminum, steel or stainless steel.In expensive technology, aluminum elements are additionally processed, thus saving from oxidation. They have several modules. The grease filter made of stainless steel is of higher quality than aluminum, because such a product has a longer service life. In addition, filters from this material more effectively cope with air purification.

If a recirculation system is installed that cleans the air in the kitchen and sends it back to the room, then in this case a charcoal filter must be used. In these models of devices it is necessary not only to eliminate fat, but also to rid the air of unpleasant odors.

Install the carbon filter behind the grease trap. It consists of an adsorbent.

It is important to bear in mind that recirculation reduces exhaust throughput by approximately 25%, and installation of the coal trap will further reduce them. When the carbon filter is filled with fat bloom, the air through it becomes even worse.

Charcoal element for exhaust does not come in standard sets of equipment, so it is bought separately. Also, as the pollution filters need to be replaced.

We clean the body

Before you clean the aluminum filter, you need to wash the hood body directly.

We must always remember both the internal and external parts of the body. It is important to select the washing solution depending on the case material - for metal, plastic and others. Substances in the composition of the funds must be sparing so as not to leave scratches on the outside of the device.

Metal brushes are not recommended, as there is a risk of scratching the case. Therefore, it is better to use a viscose napkin or a microfiber cloth for this.

A dishwashing liquid or a gel against greasy contaminants, such as Sanita, is plentifully poured over it. Then this cloth wipes the case and the visible internal elements of the device and leave for 10-15 minutes. After the time, you can safely begin to scour the spots, they will easily dissolve. At the end of the procedure, wipe the case over the stove with a dry cloth.

There is another interesting way to clean the device - use a steam cleaner. Water is poured into it, plugged in, and then just drive them around the hood. On sale you can find types of steam cleaners, which are equipped with napkins and various nozzles. With them it is more convenient to clean the hood.

To wash the hood in the bathroom is a little harder. To do this, remove the grate and wash it with soapy water. Then a broom sweep away the accumulated debris.

In order to independently clean the heavily polluted body of equipment in the apartment, you can use lemon, soda and vinegar. In a soda, slaked with vinegar, add a few drops of lemon juice and this mixture is treated contaminated surface area.

This combination of ingredients will eliminate even the most persistent pollution. It is recommended at least once every 5-6 months so that the hood effectively copes

Cleaning frequency

It is recommended to wash the outer hood. once a month. Then the kitchen room will be neat, and you can forget about the fat traces.

Accurate and high-quality cleaning equipment - the key to its durable work. The metal grate should be washed at least once a quarter, always focusing on the degree of contamination. If you do not allow the formation of heavy fat spots, then cope with the washing of the hood will be easy.

Hoses that have a duct, as mentioned earlier, also should not remain without attention to cleaning the pipes. Plastic pipes are quite simply cleaned with suitable detergents. Corrugated aluminum models, on the other hand, are difficult to launder, which is why owners often replace them with new ones every six months.

In recirculation models, besides cleaning the external screen, it is necessary to replace the internal carbon filter.Since it accumulates dust, moisture and odors after cooking.

It is recommended to change it at least once every 5-6 months so that the hood efficiently copes with cleaning the incoming air.

Useful tips

When washing the hood of grease, follow some tips and tricks:

  • during washing and drying of the hood it is necessary to make sure that the device is disconnected from the network. In this case, the hostess and the device will be protected from electric shock;
  • the device does not need to be heated. If boiling is present in the selected cleaning method, then it is necessary to check the elements for the presence of plastic inserts, because there is a risk of their melting;
  • It is necessary to remove greasy dirt while it is still frozen. Then you just need to remove them with soapy water. For this reason, it is undesirable to delay cleaning, and when free time appears, wipe the equipment slightly;
  • regular maintenance of the kitchen hood will save the budget, because then there will be no problems with washing the appliance and, accordingly, you will not have to additionally buy expensive professional tools;
  • Another useful tip is to prepare the surface before proceeding to the procedure using popular methods. Carefully remove the top layer of fat using a sharp knife. It should be extremely careful not to damage the parts. After such a mechanical cleaning, it will be much easier to remove residual dirt with the selected agent.
