Regardless of where you prefer to do a manicure (in a beauty salon or on your own), you must use additional funds to color coating. Among them are the base, top coating and primer - normal and acid-free. Each of these tools performs its tasks, they are not replaced by each other.

What is a primer?

A primer is a special fluid whose function is to provide a coupling between a natural nail and an artificial turf. He prepares the plate for the procedure. The composition of the primers are divided into acid-free and acidic, most often the tool is packaged in jars, containers and vials. Coming in contact with air, the primer dries, so keep it open for a long time is not recommended. In the process of use may cause discomfort in the form of tingling, pulling effect with different intensity. However, these are fleeting side effects that do not affect the result.

Composition

The liquid has a thin consistency, of a watery or gel-like type, which has no shade and often no odor. Packaging is usually opaque, since the light has a destructive effect on the structure of the composition and reduces the shelf life. From a chemical point of view, the composition is not simple:

  • methacrylic acid;
  • ethyl acetate;
  • 2-hydroselethylmathylamine.

It is these substances that give the agent the ability to bond an artificial plate with a natural one.

Depending on the amount of acid contained, the primers are classified as acid-free and acidic. In the first, the acids are not completely absent, they are simply contained in a smaller amount and less aggressively affect the nail, do not dry it. For weakened thin nails, such types of products are recommended, such as acid-free primer and prep-primer. The latter is the most benign of all possible pre-coatings.

It is distinguished by a soft action, it does not penetrate into the deep layer of the plate, maintains the moisture balance, prevents dehydration.

However, it is not suitable for building and gel coatings, as the adhesive abilities are poorly pronounced.

Manicure with gel polish and shellac

In order for the coating to be even and strong, the natural plate must be degreased with high quality. The primer solves the following problems:

  • degreasing the nail surface;
  • dries the top layer of the nail plate, without destroying the deep ones;
  • disinfects;
  • prevents stratification and deformation of the plates;
  • protects against aggressive coatings;
  • increases adhesion, and hence the service life of the coating.

The use of primer requires accuracy, it is necessary to avoid contact with the cuticle, skin of the hands. Do not use the primer at all possible only if the nail plate is perfectly flat, does not exfoliate, is not thinned. In this case, a basic coverage is sufficient. It is important to follow the instructions for use, as any kind of product can cause burns.

Regular manicure and extensions

Even if you simply cover your nails with a normal, unstable pigment, you do not need to exclude the primer from the algorithm. It will perfectly prime the nail, prepare the plate, ensure long-term wear without chipping for a long time. In addition, the tool will act as a barrier between the pigment and the natural nail. Luck will fall more smoothly and smoothly.

It is impossible to carry out the procedure of nail extension without primer. In this type of manicure, it is not only the most effective, but also indispensable.

Pros and cons of acid-free composition

If there is no methacrylic acid in the product, it is called acid-free. It also dries and protects the nail, provides a hitch with an artificial nail, but less traumatic effect on the plate. The composition is more gentle, but less effective. It is ideal for dried and very weak, thin nails. It is absolutely not suitable for use with a pedicure.

Both types of products have the same properties, however, the acid-free is more pronounced caring effect, rare side effects, burns.

Choosing a brand

Today, the variety of brands in the nail art market is very large. Some acid-free primers are very popular among professionals and amateurs.

  • Runail It has a liquid composition, due to which it lasts for a long time. Despite small packing, does not contain acids. Dries quickly, suitable for all gel coatings.
  • Kodi. A very common tool, economical. Does not act aggressively on the cuticle, does not cause burns, is suitable for gel coatings, as well as for acrylic extensions. The price is affordable, while the tool can be purchased at any professional store.
  • Bluesky Odorless, similar in texture to vegetable oil, does not require drying in a special lamp. Brush as comfortable as possible to use. Among the downsides is a long drying time. Among the advantages - a very low price.
  • TNL. Very comfortable brush, dries quickly, gives excellent hitch, but can cause burns. It is not easy to apply, it can deform the plate.
  • Vogue Nails. It has a pronounced sharp odor, perfectly retains the gel surface, provides long-lasting durability. But the composition is aggressive, can spoil the plate.
  • Lady Victory. The primer has proven itself in the professional market, the volume of the bottle is quite large.
  • Le Vole Ultra Bond. The company produces several types of bonders and primers, you can choose a tool for any coating. Means hypoallergenic, comfortable to use, do not cause damage to the plate and skin.

Where to buy?

It is better to make a choice in favor of professional supermarkets and online stores, official sites of representatives of a particular company. Occasional trade fairs also arrange sales. Before making a choice, you need to study this segment in the markets of not only your country, since ordering from the official website of another country is usually much more profitable.

The price category of primers is quite wide, the cost varies from 150 to 2 thousand rubles. As for acid-free funds, they are much cheaper. You should not choose the cheapest tool, you need to study the reviews of professionals and amateurs and choose the most acceptable option. Inexpensive funds differ aggressive composition and poor stamina.

How to use?

First of all, you must carefully follow the instructions that comes with the bottle. There are general principles of use and secrets of professionals that are suitable for any kind of primer:

  • applied after hygienic manicure, trimming the cuticle, shaping the nails, but before using the base coat;
  • necessary to degrease the surface;
  • movements during application must be very careful so that the composition does not get on the skin;
  • at first, the brush should be drawn from the end to the center, only then distributed to the sides;
  • be sure to squeeze out the brush so that the layer is not tight;
  • liquid formulations dry independently; gel may require drying in a special lamp;
  • gel-type primers have a sticky surface, they dry longer and require particularly thin application;
  • if the surface is wet even after a few minutes, it is wetted with a napkin.

It is possible to replace the primer with a bonder or prep, but only in the case of using gel-coating or the usual unstable varnish. They do not provide special durability, however, their composition is quite comfortable and does not spoil the nails.

If you just need to degrease the plate before coating, then feel free to use alcohol, nail polish remover or vinegar. With regard to capacity, the primer can not be replaced by anything, because it requires a very reliable adhesion, which ensures the resistance of the artificial nail.

Reviews

In general, reviews of acid-free primers have a positive direction. Buyers note their positive impact in the case of application on weakened plates, moderate manicure resistance, comfort in use: no sharp odors, just applied. Liquid primer formulations are more economical, they are easier to apply and instantly dry. Negative reviews are most often associated with gel-like compounds, which are more difficult to apply and dry longer.
