The Burmese cat is one of the most elegant breeds in the world. Such animals are quite popular in the USA and Europe, but this species is little known in our country. Burmese unusually graceful, have a soft, velvety coat.

Origin

Mention of the Burmese breed of cats exists in the ancient manuscripts of Thailand and Burma, dating from the XII century. The description of animals is found in an ancient poem exhibited in the Bangkok Museum, in the illustrations of an ancient book discovered in Siam, ancient temples also have their images on the walls. The breed received its name from the state of Burma, where it appeared. There, cats were honored as a sacred animal and compared to gods. Each priest had a cat in the house and, depending on his attitude towards her, they judged the priest’s proximity to the deities.

The inhabitants of ancient Burma believed that purrs attracted luck and wealth, accompanied by souls after death. Only famous people could lead velvety creatures - cats were valued too expensive. Several individuals have always lived in the palace of the rulers of the state, and cared for them as well as the heirs of the dynasty. In the XIX century Joseph Thomson brought a cat from Burma to America and crossed it with a representative of the Siamese breed.

For many years, he selected kittens with the darkest shade of wool, and only eight years later the Burmese cat of unusual chocolate color was officially registered, acquired its name and popularity.

Already in the middle of the 20th century, breeders from Europe made their contribution to the improvement of the breed: the wool became reddish and the body became more slender. But in this matter, the Americans and Europeans did not come to a single standard, so today there are two types of breed:

  • american typewhich is represented by animals with a dense, slightly squat body shape of a rounded shape;
  • European type differs slightly elongated, slim body constitution, these cats have a slightly pointed muzzle.

Traits

Serious and strict appearance of the Burmese is absolutely not consistent with her character. These cats are probably the most active and playful representatives of the cat, and these remain in adulthood. Brown beauty does not sit still, she is madly in love with outdoor games and jumps. If the cat stopped and became silent, it means that she is looking for something else to come up with.

They are very inquisitive and fearless, they are not afraid of other people or animals, but they are careful and avoid dangers.

Burmese have a vital need for communication and attention, they are very attached to the owner and suffer from loneliness. Asian beauties love to be petted and talked to them. Drawing attention to themselves, they purr loudly, poke their faces in the palm of their hands or fawn.

Buying a Burmese, you need to be ready to give almost all of your attention to her, because she always achieves what she wants, thanks to her perseverance and stubbornness. Cats make many decisions themselves and the owner’s opinion is not taken into account here. Despite such character traits, animals are very friendly and completely non-aggressive.

The cat will never let go of the claws, even in retaliation for the pain, so the Burmese are ideal for families with children. You can not be afraid that the cat will scratch or bite the child, but here it is worth worrying about the safety of the animal. Therefore, be sure to teach the children to be friendly and not to offend the cat, and then in her face they will get a loyal friend, always ready for noisy and fun fun. Brown cats differ in special devotion to the owner, they are ready to accompany him everywhere, like dogs.

Among the family members, the cat will choose a pet with whom it will communicate most of all.

Due to their characteristic good nature, such animals get along well with other pets. When buying a Burmese, you need to take into account that you have to give it all your attention and care. For this graceful "goddess" will thank with love and loyalty.
