What are flip flops and how do they look?

The history of shoes, which we now call "Vietnamese", dates back to ancient Egypt, then the fashion for them spread to Ancient Greece and Rome, where the poor wore pairs made from straw and papyrus, and the rich from rawhide, and only then they landed in Southeast Asia and, in particular, in Vietnam.

But, as it turned out, traditional shoes are not considered in the above-mentioned countries, but in the Land of the Rising Sun. It was in Japan from time immemorial that shoes were made with a gap between the fingers. Vietnamese prototypes were called zori, they were made from rice straw and wood. Residents of Japan wore them, putting on special cotton socks, tabi, in which the thumb was separated from the rest. In Europe, zori became known only after the Second World War. Since then, Western women of fashion wear with pleasure the imitation of such shoes, only made of rubber and plastic.

Modern flip-flops, also called slates in everyday life or flip-flops (due to the sound made when walking) are lightweight summer shoes without a backdrop, a variety of fully open sandals. On their feet, they are held by two special straps, interconnected by a vertical web in the region of the thumb and “index” toes. Flip-flops are quite versatile, they are worn with pleasure by both adults of both sexes and children. And today they are usually worn on bare feet without socks. Most often, these shoes are used on the beach, in the pool, sauna or bath.

Types and models

If once the flip-flops were just cheap rubber slaps for the bath and the beach, today they have become an organic part of the fashionable summer look. There are many different models that differ in material, color, finish, shape of the sole. Flip flops are classic, urban, sports, beach, home, everyday, massage and even "evening" with a generous decor.

The sole of the classic Vietnamese is made of soft rubber, and their top has, as a rule, no decor. For the production of sports flip flops for the pool is used not only rubber, but also silicone, which does not lose its strength under the influence of chlorinated water, and such material does not slip, and it is convenient to wear it on a wet foot.

Beach flip-flops stand out with rich shades of the base and decor of the upper part. Casual flip-flops for hiking are often made of leather, because the natural material does not allow the feet to sweat. At home, leather flip-flops are also preferable, preferably with an orthopedic base for better unloading of the foot. In hotels, lightweight flip-flops from terry cloth are not uncommon, and on a tourist trip and at the doctor / cosmetologist's appointment, disposable flip-flops from isolon will be useful.

For the discerning fashionistas, not so long ago, flip-flops with ring-mounted under the thumb, flip-flop sandals with a back, and even flip-flops-boots appeared. For those who do not particularly favor flat shoes, there is a choice between Vietnamese heels or wedges (platform). In such shoes, the legs are less tired, and due to the thickening of the soles of its owner are protected from all sorts of irregularities encountered on the way.

Fashion trends 2017

In general, fashion trends in relation to footwear are aimed at intricate dressing and playing with forms. Manufacturers decorate Vietnamese with rhinestones, stones, metal rivets, flowers, put prints, inscriptions, drawings on the sole. Leather models are decorated with weaving, embroidery, colorful stitching and appliqué.The attention of fashionistas recently presented rectangular, square and even diamond-shaped flip-flops.

In the fashion of hand-made, and needlewomen love to choose Vietnamese as a creative object. As a result of the experiments, ethno-style shoes appear, wrapped in a bright satin scarf, as well as glamorous sparkling models decorated with pearl finish.

Material

As a material for the production of Vietnamese, rubber is used most often of different quality, from the cheapest, designed to be worn for only one summer season to expensive, having its own names, from well-known manufacturers. Specially treated resin, natural rubber, polymers, poly- and polypropylene, plastic, silicone, leather and textiles (for example, mahr) are also in demand in Vietnamese factories.

Colour

The classic colors of Vietnamese are black, blue, dark green, brown and maroon. Recently, you can find a variety of colors. - yellow, light green, turquoise, orange, purple, marsala, fuchsia ... Vietnamese look particularly interesting, combining several colors, usually from two to three. But do not forget that the color must be selected depending on the destination. If white or white-golden flip-flops would be quite appropriate in the pool or on the seashore, then in the dusty city they quickly lose their appearance.

Brands

Starting from the second half of the last century, any self-respecting designer considers experiments with Vietnamese as his immediate responsibility. Other companies produce them from year to year on a regular basis, specializing only in this area.

The most successful and iconic brand, working on the manufacture of the most fashionable and sought-after models of Vietnamese, is considered to be HavaianasThis Brazilian company began its activity more than half a century ago, namely in 1962. Initially, the brand was conceived as a manufacturer of cheap shoes for the poor in Brazil, but a quarter of a century ago Havaianas was rebranding, and since then it has worked closely with the most famous designers and fashion houses. Flip flops of this company are constantly printed on the pages of glossy fashion magazines.

In 2002, the famous fashion designer Jean-Paul Gautier had the courage to release all models on the catwalk exclusively in Vietnamese, thereby producing a true sensation. Since that day, the public has realized that the flip-flops can be not only boring rubber slaps, suitable only for the beach, but also quite interesting designer models on heels and sandals decorated with rhinestones.

Further, the baton was picked up at home by Mod Dior and Chanel. Their unique flip-flops in everyday style were made of genuine leather, and designed specifically for evening and social events - decorated with stones, beads and rhinestones. It was also demonstrated a lot of models on the heel and platform.

Today, designers and brands like Emporio Armani, Porsche design by Adidas, Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman and Reef are engaged in the release of fashionable and stylish flip-flops. Such well-known companies as Merrell, Teva, Chaco and Rider specialize in the release of comfortable sports models.

Separately, I would like to mention the popular croks Vietnamese company Croksmade from modern and environmentally friendly material Croslite. It is a foamed polymer, and, unlike conventional rubber, it is lightweight, resilient, durable, dirt-repellent, easy-to-wash, non-absorbent and prevents the spread of germs and fungi.

How to choose?

First of all, when choosing a pair of flip flops, roll them in your hands, pay attention to the seams, bend the sole, do not hesitate to smell. Rub the jumper, it should be soft, otherwise there is a risk of rubbing the delicate area between the fingers. It is desirable that the decor was sewn, the glue is less reliable and practical, especially when in contact with water. When trying on, the heel should not hang down outside the shoe; it is better to choose a pair that is larger.

What to wear?

On the beach, a pair of modern flip-flops will harmonize perfectly with the swimsuit of rich colors echoing in color. But wearing Vietnamese, fortunately, is not limited to just going to the beach. Tops, T-shirts, alcoholic T-shirts, a fitted jacket, shirts, shorts, breeches, and classic jeans will help keep a casual look. Flip flops can also be worn with skirts, both short (for example, denim) and cotton maxi.

Decorated models are perfectly combined with sundresses, cocktail and evening dresses. But in the case when shoes are replete with decor, it is better to choose a dress without drawings, draperies and pleats, so as not to look like a parrot or a New Year tree. But if your pair is decorated with stones, you can think about buying earrings and beads from similar material.

The only place where the Vietnamese is completely inappropriate is the office.
