Sensuality, coquetry, romance, femininity and elegance. That was the rococo style in the clothing at the court of King Louis XV of France. So it remains today.

Features

Rococo style replaced the fancy baroque and became almost its opposite. Tired of brightness and pompousness, the French turned to elegance and lightness.

From the Baroque new style inherited, perhaps, only the love of textured and expensive materials.

The features of the new direction are:

  • Unfading youth. From fashionistas, regardless of their age, it was supposed to look always young.
  • Slim waist and small chest. They even invented special devices that were placed under the bodice to reduce the bust.
  • Use a large amount of white and blush. With the help of cosmetics, emphasis was placed on the eyes and lips.
  • The predominance of soft pastel colors in clothes. Particular preference was given to blue and pink.
  • Just a huge number of various bows, lace and ribbons.
  • Fluffy skirts that are becoming more magnificent every year. To give them the proper form, fizhma (skeleton) was invented. At the same time, the length of the skirts became much shorter and the outfits began to open their legs.

The latest French queen Marie-Antoinette was the fashion-maker in the new direction. With the help of the famous fashionist Bertin in those days and the dancer Guimard, the queen invented a new style of dresses almost daily, which immediately became fashionable.

Rococo today

In spite of everything, women always want to look young and beautiful. This desire greatly contributed to the fact that the clothing of the XVIII century was again in the trend.

A little modernized, but still preserving the features of the sunset era of the French monarchy:

  • thin waist, formed, most often, with the help of a corset;
  • a significant proportion of unnatural (underlined aristocratic pallor, and hypertrophied forms of clothes);
  • additional elements in the form of stockings, gloves or mitts;
  • all kinds of fans and laces;
  • abundance of flowers in the outfit itself and in additions to it;
  • fluffy hems;
  • asymmetry.

Of course, rococo in modern fashion is not an everyday style. But it will perfectly fit into all sorts of parties and festive events (weddings, birthdays, graduation balls), which should be unforgettable.

Modern outfits come from the XVIII century

In contrast to the European fashion almost three hundred years ago, modern designers referring to that era prefer not light pastel shades but rich dark tones. Relevant brown, gray, blue with silver, gold and even black.

But the main styles of dresses - the main item of clothing - remained virtually unchanged. Thin waist and open shoulders are still in fashion.

As for the cut, in the trend:

  • Dress - "inverted glass." Model with a tightened top (most often used a corset) and a wide bottom on the frame.
  • "Watteau" or contush - one-piece wide model with narrow shoulders with pleats on the frame and a special design of the back. By the way, the dress did not receive its name because of the characteristics of the cut, but by the name of a famous artist who often painted celebrities in such a model.
  • “Polonez” - with a large number of finishes in the form of frills, ruches and various artificial decorations.
  • A shirt-cut dress is a straight model with a belt that highlights the waist, pleats at the chest and a long skirt shifted back.

Materials

In shirt dresses with a high collar, the “firm” distortion of the proportions of a figure occurs through the use of skirts on a frame with pockets and voluminous folds. In models with cleavage, the whole image is aligned with the help of puffy skirts with numerous ruffles.

Embroidery made with gold metal thread, trimmed with stones, beads, rhinestones, and applications in the form of geometric shapes are very popular. The most stylish is considered to be a rocaille pattern, which is a golden curl (the name Rococo comes from the word sink, shell, which determined this choice of designers). Numerous laces on clothes are still in fashion.

Both chic bows and short capes passed into our age.

To the aristocratic image perfectly fit shoes with a heel-glass, with a sharp nose. Both are the invention of the rococo heyday in France. Instead of shoes you can pick up ankle boots, boots or boots.

Shoes can be either monophonic or decorated with silk and lace trim.

Bright accessories

One of the characteristics of the stylish direction is the love of accessories. As such, beads, necklaces, large earrings, all sorts of decorative elements with rhinestones are used.

Perfectly complement the royal image of the fan, small handbags, hats, decorated with feathers and flowers or made from straw.

Handbags can be printed in the form of flowers, on thin chains, slung over the shoulder or hand. Velvet clutches will also look great.

Selecting the outfit and additions to it, it is important not to overdo it, so as not to look silly. In general, clothing in this old - new style should be light and airy.

Make-up and hairstyle

In the makeup that complements the image, as well as in the past, thick black eyebrows are relevant (in those days, the eyebrows were overhead and made of special brushes), pale skin color, accentuated by the most natural shades of lipstick. Cosmetics on the eyes should also be discreet and not bright.

As for hairstyles, it would be best to match the image with a high styling, decorated with a rim.

Unforgettable images

Rococo direction is not suitable for trips to work. Yes, and women aged better to abandon this image.

The wedding dress would be the perfect choice for this style. It will definitely look special, unique and attractive, and will allow its owner to feel like a real queen. At the same time, it is not necessary to choose the outfit of the traditional “wedding” color. It can be lilac or light blue, the color of azure or sea sand, beige.

In the role of decor, you can use the lush original cloaks, an unusual veil or train of various lengths.

Fans of the French style direction

Today, the trendsetters of modern fashion such as Prada, John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Vivienne Westwood and others actively use models of this style in their designer collections.

Star Fans are Lady Gaga, Madonna and Mariah Kerry.
