Appearance

Bull Terrier looks quite menacing. It has an average height, the height at the withers in an adult individual ranges from 51 to 63 cm. The weight ranges from 25 to 35 kg. Such a dog of strong build, with well-developed jaws, it involuntarily causes unaccountable fear among others. In addition to standard sizes, there is also a dwarf subspecies of bull terriers, when the growth of an adult dog does not exceed 36 cm, and its weight is not more than 12 kg.

The head of the bull terrier is large, with a flat forehead, passing without drops in a long, slightly hook-nosed face. Small dark brown eyes in the form of triangles are significantly recessed into the sockets of the skull. Narrow small triangular-shaped ears stand high and at a short distance.

Strong, muscular neck of medium length smoothly turns into powerful croup. The back is short and strong. Thorax wide, with pronounced muscles. If you look from the side, you can see that the dog's belly is much higher above the ground than the chest. A short tail tapering toward the end is set below the level of the back. Long and strong paws are arranged in parallel. The short, hard coat fits snugly on tight skin.

The most common color in bull terriers is white. Moreover, whites are also considered to be those with colored spots on their heads.

If the colored spots descend below the neck, the dog is considered white with markings.

The following color schemes are allowed:

  • red of all shades, except the lightest, which is considered pale-yellow;
  • black, which is quite rare; usually a dog with such a fur coat has small white specks in the chest area or small “socks”, due to which such coloring is referred to as bicolor;
  • red-white or black-and-white individuals are colored 50 to 50, with white spots usually located in the neck, chest, muzzle, legs, tail;
  • tricolor dogs are usually painted black and white with a small amount of ginger or brown, while white takes up about half of the area in the form of spots; all colors have clear boundaries and are well distinguishable;
  • the tiger coloring of the bull terrier was not recognized immediately, but later became very popular with lovers of the breed; valid red with brown stripes or black with red;
  • tiger-white are distinguished by the presence of white spots not only in the chest or paws, but also on the muzzle.

Important! All other colors of the dog coat do not meet the standards, dogs of such colors are not allowed to breed.

Character

Bull terriers belong to the fighting dogs, so they have a peculiar character. The behavior of the dog is very dependent on the will and determination of the owner.

With proper upbringing, the bull terrier is notable for its special devotion, knows how to get along with children and is very sensitive to the mood of the owner.
