Jeans - the thing is incredibly comfortable and practical. High-quality jeans can last for years, but even with old, worn pants sometimes do not want to stay. It is especially offensive if the presentation of jeans is spoiled by a single hole in the knee or an indelible stain.

However, it is not necessary to throw out your favorite jeans, if you can no longer wear them. A great way to give a second life to old things is to turn them into new ones. We suggest you to sew a stylish denim skirt from already unnecessary pants. To learn how to do it yourself, read our today's article.

Short denim skirt

There are dozens of types of denim skirts - short and long, narrow and lush. Each model is sewn differently, taking into account the features of the style. The simplest option that even an inexperienced seamstress can easily cope with is a miniskirt.

To make a short skirt out of old jeans, you will need the following materials and accessories:

  • sewing device;
  • wax crayon or remnant;
  • safety pins;
  • threads;
  • cutting scissors;
  • ruler or tailoring meter;
  • sewing machine.

The first thing to do is decide on the length of the skirt. The ideal length of a short skirt can be determined by standing in front of a mirror and stretching arms at the seams. The line drawn from the fingertips of one hand to the other is the optimal length of the hem.

Armed with a ruler, outline the line on which they will be cut off on jeans. Do not forget to leave 1.5-2 cm for processing hem.

Then take the seam ripper and gently disengage the inner seams on the legs. The middle seam needs to be cut up to the zipper.

Then put the two halves of the workpiece overlapping each other and sew a new middle seam in front and behind. Fold the hem of the skirt inward and work the edge on the sewing machine.

A short skirt of old jeans is ready!

Flared skirt

If not skinny jeans or “pipes”, but jeans with wide trousers like “trumpet” or “flares” turned out to be at your disposal, then you can make an average-length A-line skirt with them.

Flared skirt is sewn from the bottom of the pants, and the upper one can be used for other needs, for example, to make shorts out of it.

  • Step 1. First you need to take measurements - waist coverage, hips coverage and the length of the skirt. Based on these data, you can determine at what height should be cut jeans. Pants need to be cut not only from the top, but also from the bottom, as the old hem is probably already worn out in order and looks unpresentable. In the next step, all the seams on the cut leg should be ripped open. As a result, you should have four pieces of fabric. Smooth and steam each part thoroughly.
  • Stage 2. Now you can do the pattern of the product. The pattern is very simple: it is a trapezoid detail. The upper part of the trapeze is the waist span divided by four, and the lower part is the desired width of the skirt divided by four. The length of the sides of the trapezoid is the length of the skirt plus hem reserve. It is necessary to cut such a detail from each piece of fabric.
  • Step 3. Next, assemble the skirt of the four elements of the trapezoid. Sew together all the pieces, then put them on a belt with an elastic, stitched from scraps of jeans or from any other material. Processing the bottom edge is as usual.

Midi skirt

A straight skirt of medium length can be sewn from old jeans of any style. Skinny jeans are suitable for a tight-fitting pencil skirt, plain ones for a simple straight skirt, and wide ones for a flared model.

  1. To get a midi skirt, pants will have to be cut at about knee level. Do not throw away cropped leg - with their help, you can "arrange" the skirt in width.
  2. After you have cut the jeans to the desired length, the most important stage of the work follows - unpacking the inner seams. This should be done very carefully so as not to damage the fabric. It is best to use for these purposes a special sewing device that resembles a pointed hook. Leave side seams as is.
  3. Lay out the blank for the skirt on a flat hard surface. Then place a rectangular piece of fabric cut from the cut leg between the trousers. Pin it with pins. Observing a small overlap, stitch the insert to the edges of the pants. With the skirt turned inside out, trim off excess fabric.
  4. Then turn the product over again on the front side and position it with the clasp down. Now you need to sew to each other two pants. First connect them with pins, then stitch the seam on a typewriter.
  5. After fitting the skirt, you can proceed to the processing of the bottom edge. There are several options: bend and stitch, process overlock, or pull out a few threads from the hem, leaving a careless fringe.

Boho style

One of the most popular styles of the latest fashion seasons is boho. The name of this style comes from the word bohemian, that is, "bohemian". This is the style of creative people; It is a combination of seemingly incompatible components: Gypsy motifs, glamor, “grandmother's” things and elements of the hippie culture.

Boho-style things are layered skirts, colorful sundresses, and vintage jewelery. The boho clothes are peculiar to a small patina of antiquity, so the skirt of old, worn jeans will fit into it as well as possible.

We suggest you not be content with just one denim, but add bright fabrics and floral patterns. If you have a summer dress or a dress that you have not been wearing for a long time, you can use it. Thus, out of two unnecessary things you will have a new, stylish skirt, in which you are passing more than one summer.

  1. The upper part of the skirt will be made of jeans, and the bottom - of a sundress. First of all, you should cut the jeans to the desired length (a few centimeters below the pockets) and cut off the bodice at the sundress. You do not need to immediately throw away the cut parts - from them you can make a decor for the skirt or use them to create other things.
  2. From the cut legs it is necessary to cut several wide ribbons - these will be frills of the skirt. You can also make frills from the lining or from the bodice of the sundress. Stitched ribbons from different fabrics in one long. You will need as many long ribbons as you wish to sew ruffles to the hem of the skirt.
  3. Attach the ruffles to the skirt hem. Do not forget to process the edges so that the fabric does not crumble and crawl onto threads. Sew the top and bottom of the skirt. The finished product can be decorated with flowers, patches, ribbons and ruffles made from scraps of fabric.

In the technique of "Pechvork"

The patchwork, despite the modern name, is one of the oldest handicraft techniques. Our thrifty ancestors have long been engaged in sewing cloth shreds - it was important for them to find the use of each piece of cloth.

If earlier in the patchwork technique created household items - rugs, bedspreads, etc., today clothing and accessories patchwork are popular. Learning this technique should start with the simplest things, for example, to convert old jeans into a skirt.

The first thing to do is decide on the style of the skirt. Then take the necessary measurements make a pattern. Its shape will depend on the selected product model.

From jeans you need not only the upper part, but also trouser legs - they need to be cut into square or rectangular pieces of different sizes.

To make the skirt look more interesting, it is advisable to use several types of denim, therefore, several denim items can be used at once.In addition to denim, you can use other fabrics.

  • From cut pieces, like from a mosaic, assemble the lower part of the skirt in accordance with the pattern.
  • First, the patches need to be fastened with pins, and then sew on hands or stitch on a typewriter.
  • Next, sew the lower part of the skirt to the top, made of jeans. If desired, the product can be decorated with buttons, ribbons, lace and other decorative elements.
